Yuletide!

Oct 18, 2015 22:34

Hello, friend! Thank you for participating in Yuletide this year. I think this is my sixth year and it's always a lot of fun. I just want to say that I will love anything you write for me and don't worry about all the stuff I'm about to talk about. Okay? Rock on.

I'm gonna try to keep it a bit more simple this year. Last year's letter goes way more into depth on the stuff I like and don't like, if you want to hit that up.

Likes - My favorite trope is friends falling in love. I've been kind of obsessed with it, like, forever. I'm a sucker for the "everyone knows they're in love except for them" trope. I love reunions (if you couldn't tell by my requests), making out, first times, last times, UST and pining and longing, unrequited love and pining, kick-ass ladies, nostalgia, canon references, karma and fate and the universe, doggies, confessions, confrontations.

Dislikes - Epithets, character bashing, graphic violence, total fluff without any hint of angst, but also not complete angst and death and sadness without a bit of fluff, etc. I'm not into baby/pregnancy stuff unless it's kind of an inner struggle situation. Like, I'm 36 and I'm coming to terms with the fact I'm probably not going to have kids, so I like to see characters (for instance, Carrie Bradshaw and Mr. Big decided not to have kids and I love that) contemplating the right choice for them. Homeland is probably the one exception since Carrie is such an unconventional mother anyway, I'd be kind of interested to know how she learned to love Frannie and not want to drown her in a bathtub.

I'm cool with - Infidelity and betrayal is fine, but I would like some resolution before the end of it all. AUs are fine; my favorite book is The Time Traveler's Wife, so time traveling in some way could be fun, if you're into that. Don't worry about triggers, unless you're planning on writing anything that includes animal abuse, which...don't do that. Crossovers could be fun...other shows I'm obsessed with include Friends, Sex and the City, CSI, Big Bang Theory, Vampire Diaries, Modern Family, Sons of Anarchy, Arrow, Gilmore Girls, and just of recently...The Voice for some reason.

Also, I'm a shameless shipper and at least most of the stuff I write is romance-y in nature. But I am totes cool with friendship fics, gen, and everything in between. Just so we're all clear on that.

Yule!porn - I'm in! Actually, I'm good with or without sexy times. If you're not comfortable, don't go there. If you are comfortable, go with it. I like handcuffs and other assorted light bondage situations, rough sex (hair pulling and spanking for example) lip biting, teasing/build-up/foreplay, etc. Anything more graphic than that is not totes cool with me. Het and F/F is A-OK. Also: Bonus points for sexy times near/on a piano...that scene in Pretty Woman left a very long lasting impression on my psyche, if you know what I mean.

In summary, I am pretty hard to offend and I'm open to a lot of situations, so go with what your heart tells you.

Somewhat related but not really: I am a big fan of Axl Rose/Guns N' Roses. We're going on almost 24 years here. I've seen them live five times. Most of my music knowledge stops around 1995. I love hair metal, rock and roll, groupies, the Sunset Strip in the eighties and every single thing associated with that scene. Almost all the fiction I've written has something to do with this theme. Completely obsessed, always have been. It can be a problem sometimes, seeing that this is 2015 and everything.

Whatever you have in your heart, give it to me. I will love it. One last thing: here and here is where my fic is located, in case you care. Most of it is either CSI or Big Bang Theory (love me some GSR and Shenny), but I have a smattering of many other shows and movies, too. Also, feel free to stalk me around the internets if you're bored. Tumblr, Twitter, LastFM. Get you some.

Anyway:

Homeland - Carrie Mathison and Saul Berenson - I LOVE CLAIRE DANES. I've loved her for so long. Any way you want to explore Carrie's life is good with me. I have to admit, I'm not sure what in the world is happening this season, but as of right now, we don't really know what happened in those two years between season 4 and 5. What happened? How did she end up where she is now? How is her relationship with Frannie? Does she still struggle with bonding with her? What happens when she thinks about Brody now? Backstory is also nice. How in the world did she come to this job/the fascination with the Middle East? What was her school life like? What was the day of 9-11 like for her, if you want to go there. Also, I'll just say, I want anything you got when it comes to Carrie and Saul. What happened with them in those two years? But mostly, friendship, more than friends, enemies, whatever you got, I will salivate over it forever. Their relationship is endlessly fascinating to me.

Also? My So-Called Life crossover. I've asked for this basically every year since the first season of Homeland and I did actually get it last year and it was wonderful and now I will ask again because I'm greedy. I don't even really have a prompt for this, but it would be amazing, as MSCL is my favorite show of all time and Homeland is right up there. Angela runs away from home and becomes Carrie. Maybe Graham does something dumb with his restaurant and they have to go into witness protection or something and Angela changes her name and becomes obsessed with the Middle East. I don't know, but maybe you do. Just putting it out there.

Baby-Sitters Club - any character - I have loved these books forever and I will never, ever stop. I think what I'd love most is a 15 or 20 year reunion, where they've had time to finally stop being teenagers and grow into what they're going to become--and for the record, I don't need everyone to be happy and have big families and kids and such. Or maybe they come together for a reunion and have a party for the kids they used to sit. Maybe one of them grows out of baby-sitting as they get older and have no idea what to do with a kid now. Like for instance, perhaps Stacey has a kid and wants Claudia to baby-sit, but she's a big artist now and hasn't interacted with a kid in like 20 years. That's a dumb example and I'm sorry.

I just want to know where they are now; how their personalities developed into adults. If you don't dig the reunion idea, really whatever blows your skirt up is cool with me, as long as they are not 13 years old anymore. They deserve to be grown-ups! They spent so many years as teenagers. Sexy times are fine--I don't have any preferred ships or anything but I feel like I can get on board with any of them.

My So-Called Life - Jordan Catalano, Angela Chase, Rayanne Graff, Brian Krakow - Ah, I will never get over this show. And basically every year I ask for something Jordan/Angela, because they were my first OTP. A reunion would be great, or what happens after she gets in the car with Jordan, knowing that Brian wrote the letter. Anything! Annnnything. I personally feel like she and Jordan go out for a while and do end up having sex, but they break up because most relationships like that do come to an end eventually. Maybe she and Brian go to the same college and fall in love kind of and maybe Jordan comes to visit her and chaos ensues. Maybe something where Angela and Rayanne repair their broken friendship somehow, or they meet up in the future and laugh about how dumb they used to be.

I think what drew me to the show when it was first airing, and still does more than 20 years later, is I kind of used to be an Angela and I kind of had my own Jordan situation, as well. Of course, my Jordan relationship didn't last very long but it had a long-lasting impact. So Angela still recalling her Jordan days when she's older and maybe has a family of her own--or doesn't, I'm totes on board with her not having kids--might be fun as well.

All that being said, I'd obviously love a story just about any one of these characters on their own. Did Rayanne come to terms with sobriety, and what did she do with her life beyond high school? Did Jordan ever get his shit together? What happened with Angela's family--did her dad cheat again, did his restaurant take off, what's up with Patty? I'm totes cool with any and all of it.

Ghost Whisperer - Melinda Gordon, Jim Clancy - Ohmygaw, I was a little obsessed with this show. I work in closed captioning and I captioned most episodes after the second season, and I was very emotionally attached. Jim and Melinda are basically my favorite fictional couple ever, and I am still pretty obsessed with the season where he dies and puts himself in another body so that he can still be with Melinda. I honestly don't have any good prompts for this--I would just love anything with the two of them, really, or even Melinda being a bad ass on her own is cool, too. I just love how he would do anything for her and was basically a perfect husband, and I was so intrigued by how he stuck around as a ghost for a while because he couldn't let go.

Adventures in Baby-Sitting - any character - This is the movie of my childhood. I was obsessed with everything about it. I'd love anything for this movie, I just got so excited to see it listed here. Maybe they all meet up together a few years/many years later and have another adventure. I'm not opposed to Chris and Brad ending up together after all, but that doesn't have to be the main focus. I'd like to know what Sara is doing as a grown-up and if Darrell ever stopped being a sex-crazed maniac. Again...annnytthing.

I think that's about it at this time. Thank you so much for writing something for me. Whatever you write will be thoroughly appreciated by me, and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

yuletide
