Yuletide up in here
Hello, Yuletide friend. Thanks for writing something for me! This is my sixth year participating and I'm excited. Obvs if you're writing anything for me, I will love it fiercely. So you know what's up--this is the stuff I like and don't like, but if you have an idea you want to go with, don't let me stop you. I will appreciate what you did for me no matter what. Well, probably.
Likes: My number one favorite thing is friends turning into something more. People with a complicated history finally finding their path to each other. OBSESSED. I love angst with a happy-ish ending...I love having characters go through some challenging times and make it to the other side. I like making out, nostalgia (nineties in particular), reunions, first times, last times, unrequited love, struggling with age and getting older and wondering if your good times are behind you (I just turned 35 sooo it's a thing I'm constantly going through), karma and fate and the universe, canon references, doggies, confessions, confrontations, such like this. Infidelity and other kind of betrayal is A-OK with me, but I would kind of like at least somewhat of a happy ending that comes from it all. I'm cool with AUs if you're into that. I have a thing for time traveling (My favorite book in the entire world is the Time Traveler's Wife), if the mood strikes you. Don't worry about triggers, unless you're planning on writing anything that includes animal abuse, which...don't do that.
Also, I'm a shameless shipper and at least most of the stuff I write is romance-y in nature. But I am totes cool with friendship fics, gen, and everything in between. Just so we're all clear on that.
Dislikes: I'm not into baby fic, character bashing, graphic violence, total fluff without any hint of angst, but also not complete angst and death and sadness without a bit of fluff, etc. Also, I have to admit that I just hate epithets more than anything. I mean, even if you have to repeat their name over and over and over instead of saying "The blond said," "The tall physicist said" (this happens more than you know in the Big Bang Theory fandom) or what have you. If that's your thing, that's cool, but it drives.me.crazy.
Yule!Porn: is okay with me! I like handcuffs and other assorted light bondage situations, rough sex (hair pulling and spanking for example) lip biting, teasing/build-up/foreplay, etc. Anything more graphic than that, I don't think I'm down with. I'm cool with het and f/f but not particularly m/m. I know, I'm an enigma, please forgive me.
In summary, I am pretty hard to offend and I'm open to a lot of situations, so go with what your heart tells you.
Somewhat related but not really: I am a big fan of Axl Rose/Guns N' Roses. We're going on almost 23 years here. I've seen them live five times. Most of my music knowledge stops around 1995. I love hair metal, rock and roll, groupies, the Sunset Strip in the eighties and every single thing associated with that scene. Almost all the fiction I've written has something to do with this theme. Completely obsessed, always have been. It can be a problem sometimes, seeing that this is 2014 and everything.
Whatever you have in your heart, give it to me. I will love it. One last thing: here and here is where my fic is located, in case you care. Most of it is either CSI or Big Bang Theory (love me some GSR and Shenny), but I have a smattering of many other shows and movies, too. Anyway:
Homeland - I LOVE CLAIRE DANES. I've loved her for so long. Any way you want to explore Carrie's life is good with me. I'm not usually a fan of kid!fic, but in this case, I wouldn't mind, since Carrie is such an unconventional mother. Maybe explore the relationship between how she treats her daughter and how Carrie's mother treated her, or how Carrie finally finds some kind of mothering instinct inside of her that does not include trying to drown her baby in a bathtub. Her back story is also intriguing. How'd she end up here? But mostly for Homeland, I'll just be a big girl and admit it: I want anything to do with Carrie and Saul. Friendship, more than friends, enemies, whatever you got, I will salivate over it forever. Their relationship is endlessly fascinating to me.
Also? My So-Called Life crossover. I've asked for this basically every year since the first season of Homeland and I don't expect to receive it, of course, but what if I did?! I gotta ask. I don't even know what this would entail; all I know is that it would be the greatest thing to ever happen to anyone, as MSCL is my favorite show of all time and Homeland is up there. Angela runs away from home and becomes Carrie. Maybe Graham does something dumb with his restaurant and they have to go into witness protection or something and Angela changes her name and becomes obsessed with the Middle East. I don't know, but maybe you do. Just putting it out there.
Rock of Ages - New favorite movie ever. Like I said before, my music knowledge stops around 1998, but basically eighties hairbands are my favorite thing. This movie was basically everything I've ever tried to write but was never able to. I'm mostly obsessed with Stacee. Tom Cruise was so epic in this role (maybe because he was kind of channeling Axl but maybe that's just me). I want any kind of anything that has to do with Stacee. Maybe we could explore his early days when he wanted more than anything to become a rock star. Like, before the money and the women and the alcohol took over his life. When he was still dreaming of creating music that spoke to people, of becoming a rock star, of finding a group of people who supported his dream to create a band of like minded individuals. I dug his thing with Constance and it would probably be fun to see them trying to have a relationship even though Stacee is not used to being monogamous. I was kind of intrigued by his chemistry with Sherie, as well. Whatevs, it doesn't have to be shippy, I'm just fascinated by Stacee, period.
Baby-Sitters Club - I have loved these books forever and I will never, ever stop. I would love to see some kind of reunion fic, maybe skip the 10 year and go for 15 or 20, that would be amazing and awesome. I just want to know where they are now; how their personalities developed into adults. If you don't dig the reunion idea, really whatever blows your skirt up is cool with me, as long as they are not 13 years old anymore. They deserve to be grown-ups! They spent so many years as teenagers. I only included the main 4 characters but I'd be cool with anyone else showing up, too. I'd be totes cool with yule!porn, too, just in case your mind takes you there.
My So-Called Life - Hmm. Angela is not listed this year. Well, okay. Rayanne! What in the world is Rayanne doing with herself lately? Has she been able to overcome her demons or not? Is she still friends with Angela and Ricky? I'd be interested in a scenario where perhaps Rayanne hasn't seen Angela in a very long time and they meet again and it's awkward for a while but hell, they're older now, they can do this. Or, since Amber is listed, how is Rayanne's relationship with her mom these days? Orr perhaps Rayanne runs into Jordan and they get together and reminisce about old times. When they slept together, it was kind of both shocking and not surprising. I guess what I liked about Rayanne was that she wanted to be better; she wanted to be more like Angela, but her instincts still led her astray. Literally anything for MSCL will make me happy. If you give me some mid-nineties nostalgia in there too, I will enjoy that immensely.
