Here's an early morning for me/late night for everyone else update for you guys. I don't have much to report, but I'll get into it anyway.
Classes start on Monday, which will be nice. I like most of the people in the program I've met. Luckily there are only a few major Japan-fetish types, the ones who won't even take the time to be polite o Westerners (they are not Japanese themselves, btw) but will go out of their way to hang around a bunch of Japanese girls or boys becuase they have slanty eyes. If they prefer Asian people that's fine, everyone has their preferences, but you can still be polite. But again, I've only met a couple of people like that.
yesterday was amazingly fun. I went bikeriding in the morning with Tam, morning being about 7:30, and we rode for half an hour out to the mountains (Kyoto is surrounded by mountains) and then actually CLIMBED UP THE MOUNTAIN. We literally hiked up the entire Daimonji mountain just becuase we felt like it. It was really hard and near the top I had to rest a lot (steep!) but it was so totally worth it. The view from the top was of all Kyoto and it was gorgeous. You could see the emperor's summer palace and gardens and the ring of mountains and everything. Then we climbed down and rode home. All in all it took about three hours, I think, and it was strenuous. We also found a shopping district down there. Christy, you are going to get so much Hello Kitty stuff it'll hurt. They have everything up there and it's BEAUTIFUL. I'll probably start sending stuff out next week (to everyone) because I'll have my bank account and money.
Well, we went bank home, made scones for the get-to-know-everyone-in-Richards-House Party later that evening and played gameboy and stuff. then Sarah (see Sarah, now my entries are going to get confusing because there's a Sarah here who spells her name the right way) and I went to go grocery shopping and I got tuna and food containers and bowls with bunnies on them. Then I went riding out in the hopes of catching Janelle and Tam, who had walked out to get a bike for Janelle and check out the shopping center again. That was another hour of bike riding. I did find them, I bought chopsticks I couldn't afford and an icecream cone, saw a couple of feral cats, and came home. We made gyudon (DELICIOUS). It's really thing beef and onions sauteed and then boiled in teriyaki sauce and put over rice. SO GOOD. It was a communal meal of yumminess. We also watched an episode of project runway which was really entertaining. Then we went down to the party. It was loud, and overall fun, but it was really crowded and I was relaly tired, so I stayed for a little over two hours and then wussed out to go to bed at 10:30.
I got up this morning at 6:30 to get ready for another early morning bike ride with Tam. We're planning to do bike rides or runs as often as possible in the mornings. It'll be awesome. That's pretty much it. I'll talk to you guys later.
