Argh. I just finished averaging grades for 2nd trimester. Yes, I could have done it over the weekend. But, come on, it was the weekend. Actually, it doesn't ever take as long as I think it will. It is a lot of mindless number crunching. Maybe that's what it's like being an accountant. Remind me of this the next time I complain about my job. ;)
Tomorrow is early dismissal and then an idea-sharing seminar thingy at another Catholic school. I guess we're supposed to bring our favorite lessons or classroom ideas to share with other teachers. I printed up a lesson that I have used several times called the Metric Olympics. The students do events like the "straw javelin throw" and "cotton ball shotput" and measure the distances. It's pretty fun. I hope that other people bring interesting lessons so that I get something out of this.
Update on "can't even get expelled kid"- absent again today. On Friday he was on vacation. I don't know about today. I do think that keeping him away from school is an awfully passive-agressive way of dealing with the problem. But hey, I'm not a parent. (?) Last week this was all pretty upsetting to me, now I'm kind of bemused and yet horrified by the whole situation. What are these people thinking?
Must go sleep now.
