I got up this morning and did 45 minutes of Pilates, then rewarded myself with a chocolate bar. Just kidding. I rewarded myself with a nice, long shower. I've started to loathe the woman on my Pilates tapes. She does all of these awful contortionist moves like pulling her leg up to her head and balancing on just her tailbone, whatever. Then she quips, "Don't worry if you can't do this yet, you will." Yeah, or I'll just give up. Maybe it's time for "Sweatin' to the Oldies." Though I don't think I could take myself seriously while hopping around to Richard Simmons. Maybe you're not supposed to, maybe that's the secret.
It sounds like my parents had a great time in Hawaii- I could see that they were both sunburned. They went snorkeling and saw sea turtles and all kinds of fish. My mom didn't tell her friend Marie that she was going out of town. Marie called on my mom's birthday and left this message, "I've called and called and nobody's answering, so you must just be having wanton sex." I so didn't need to hear that. It was pretty funny, though.
My mom brought me some great stuff. She got me a pink pearl necklace, bracelet and earrings. Not preppy/librarian/Jackie O. pearls, just little seed pearls. I'm so wearing them with my cashmere sweater tomorrow. Whee-ha. (That's really out of character for me, even when I dress up I'm all about denim and khaki and tennis shoes or Doc Martens. I call my look "sporty casual," or "screw wearing heels that hurt and clothes I can't move around in.") She also got me some stuff to share with my kids: a Hawaiian/English dictionary, a book about the history of Hawaii, a chart with different kinds of fish, a bunch of postcards, and (this is so cool,) a real lei. The lei is in the fridge right now. I hope it lasts until tomorrow so that I can show my students. Oh, and the previously mentioned Hawaiian coffee that I am drinking right now. My mom is so cute. Mahalo, Mom!
