SHOULD BE GRANTED.
this post is disorganized and random, because i'm just pouring out my thoughts. i don't want to explicate the whole issue, because it will take a long time, but if you want to know more, click
here anyway, i just want to briefly express my opinion on this matter.
regardless of your religious position on gays, we can all agree that
a) gays are people too
b) the fact that they're gay does not hurt anybody
c) the constitution guarantees equality for all.
so why are people opposed to gay rights? the hell if i know.
it shouldn't matter whether or not you or your religion embraces homosexuality. those are your moral codes, not humanity's. it baffles me how people can discriminate against gay people in this day and age. honestly, critics of gay marriage need to wake up. allowing gays to benefit from the government's marriage privileges will NOT change anything. it's not like people will be like "hmm, gays are allowed to marry. i should become gay, too."
the push for gay rights is our modern-day civil-rights movement. we now look back at those who tried to prevent blacks from receiving the equality and justice that is entitled to them and think, "how could people be so horrible and ignorant as to deny their peers the same basic rights that they enjoy?" yet there are still some among us who treat homosexuals just as callously. if you are prejudiced against gay people, if you think that they are not equal to you under the law in every way, then you just need to come out and admit to yourself that you are an ignorant bigot. discriminating against gays is no different from discriminating against people on other terms, such as religion or race.
i'm just tired of this debate. i don't even understand why this is an "issue" when we should know what we ought to do.
