Today's picture share...

Had lunch with KTB at Brenda Lee's, then drove around town to take pictures and take the Neon for a spin... yeah, it missed me. Then went to Port Charlotte/Punta Gorda with Katie and Katelyn to see the damage for the first time. Well, I'd been to Port Charlotte since Charley, but not Punta Gorda. So we went alllll the way down 41 through Port Charlotte and then crossed the bridge to go into Punta Gorda.

Now obviously it's been...four months since Charley, so they've had time to clean up and recover... but it's no worse off than Arcadia. I was really expecting Punta Gorda just to be absolutely gone by the way the news channels were covering it but completely ignoring Arcadia. And honestly, Punta Gorda looks like it's in better shape than Arcadia right now. Granted we only saw certain parts of town, but... it definitely wasn't the devastation I was expecting. But now I'm just even more pissed because the stupid media made Charlotte seems like they were obliterated, and Hardee suffered major damage, but they completely skipped over DeSoto.. um... Desoto is in between Charlotte and Hardee? Did the hurricane just jump over us? Please. The Holiday Inn right on the river is probably the worst damage I've seen from the entire storm... the scary part is that the last thing we heard on the news before we lost power during Charley was the reporter parked outside of that Holiday Inn, saying he was watching balconies getting ripped off as if they were paper. I would have been scared shitless.

Katelyn and Katie walk through Fisherman's Village (which is RIGHT on Charlotte Harbor, where Charley made landfall) and spin around in the coooold cold wind.

Charlotte Harbor.

This tree is by my great uncle's house. Pretty impressive, though hard to photograph.

Bakery in Punta Gorda where I had lunch last summer.

I plan on going back to many of the locations that I took pictures of the day after Charley, to do "what's it look like now?" photos. Then maybe next Christmas I'll take another series of photos to track the progress. Hmmm...
