(no subject)
Back in Gainesville, after a rather... interesting week at the beach.
I'm a little more tan, but unfortunately it was cloudly/rainy for three of the days we were there, so that sort of put the brakes on the tan. Added to the rain, there was also red tide for two days. Thankfully there were no dead fish, just the wind was blowing it in and making us cough and making our noses burn/run. The last two days were absolutely gorgeous though, with crystal clear tropical-looking water and no waves to speak of.
We snorkeled around finding sand dollars, and watching schools of fish dart away from us. I got the crap scared out of me by a sting ray (I was walking in the shallow water snorkling, saw some movement in the sand so I stomped a bit to get it to move again, thinking it was probably a crab... instead, a sting ray unburried itself from the sand and swam off) and my mom laughed at me when I screamed into my snorkel. I got stung by a sting ray when I was 8 or 9 though, and have no desire to repeat that experience.
It was mostly my mom and I for the week, so we rented movies (Batman, Lost in Translation) and watched movies that I own (Moulin Rouge, the Village). My mom read Long Way Round while under the umbrella on the beach, so then we watched all the Long Way Round episodes on the DVD. Plus I got to watch a couple Queer Eye episodes, which made me happy. I wish I got Bravo =(.
Sarita was visiting home from Dartmouth for a break, so she drove down to Englewood to spend an afternoon/evening. We ordered Bootleggers pizza and were extremely sad to find out they don't make stuffed pizza anymore. Bummer. Our Spinach/Artichoke/Red Pepper pizza was yummy though, regardless. Then we walked along the beach which was amazing at low tide, and waded out into the ocean to watch the sunset. We tried to visit the jacuzzi/pool, but some other teenage girls hijacked the jacuzzi and sand gnats were eating us alive so we skipped it. After changing clothes, we headed out to Dairy Queen, the final Englewood tradition. Much good times.
That's it for me right now... I'll post pictures later. Oh, one last thing. The subleasing roommate from hell DIDN'T TAKE THE TRASH OUT before she left. She also left dirty (and I mean dirty) dishes in the sink. Thankfully the apartment doesn't smell, but when I opened the trash lid to check and see if she'd taken it out when she left, these tiny little bugs came flying out so now I'm just disgusted. Who does that????
