Today was allllll about ASL. First, ASL class. A very hard deaf awareness test that I probably got a B on. Then I came home and watched Children of a Lesser God, also for ASL. Dalia watched it with me and it was actually a good movie. I was expected super cheesy 80's drama but it wasn't as dated as I thought it would be... other than the really random dramatic synthesized soundtrack.

Then tonight was the Silent Banquet for the Signing Gators (I'm now a member...good stuff). Got to the Union and got in line to sign in. Joann, the head TA for the ASL classes and I assume the President of Signing Gators, stopped us at a certain point and from then on we weren't allowed to speak. We had to fingerspell our last names in order to sign in, so I was very glad I have a short last name =).

Inside I sat with Lindsay, my signing partner for most of the beginning of the semester, her boyfriend and another girl from our ASL class. It was cute because there were four different tables of people from ASL 1 and we all stuck together. Safety in numbers, I suppose. At first we kinda just sat around... Lindsay was having to whisper to her boyfriend since he obviously doesn't know ASL. Then two of the students from the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind came and sat with us... that's when the fun began. The girls were both really good about being nice and fingerspelling any of the signs we didn't know (which were a lot) and communication flowed pretty easily. They were fun and it was cool to get to watch them perform after dinner.

The performance lasted about 90 minutes and was just... awesome. I felt a little wrong for thinking some of the FSDB boys were cute since they're high schoolers. But they were! Regardless, very cool stuff. It's amazing what can be done with ASL.

So I survived without talking for roughly three hours. Yeah, you know you're impressed. After that I came home and worked on my song-gloss for ASL which is due on Thursday... of course somehow I ended up with a country song that I don't know. Oh well, I think it's pretty good.

Yeah, that's a whole lotta talkin' with my hands.
