What an amazingly good time the trip to Georgia was. It's definitely my highlight of college thus far.
So we all met up at Moody/Michael/Cooper's house early in the AM to head off to Georgia. Matt Mc, Kelly, Cooper and I sat around talking while we waited for the others to show up, and Cooper complimented me on my outfit (the red "nerd" sweater in the pictures below). After everyone showed up, we piled in Michael's parents' van and started off for Georgia. Quote of the entire trip: "I'll vomit!"- Sarah
As much as it pains me to do this, I'm going to cut so that I don't fill up your friends' page. Yes, I'm nice like that!
For the first stretch, Matt drove with Sarah in shotgun, Moody and Colleen in the second seat playing Family Guy episodes on Michael's computer (woot! more family guy!) and Kelly, Michael and I crammed in the back seat. Kelly should have permanently kept a seat in the back, because she's so skinny that we had plenty of room. But oh well, lol. We stopped past the Georgia line for lunch at Popeye's, and then hit the road again.
This time Moody drove, while the rest of us watched the BNL dvd and more Family Guy episodes. We almost got into a wreck right outside of Atlanta, but luckily Moody's driving skills saved us. LOL.
So we made it to Atlanta in 5 hours, instead of the projected 7, so then we had time to kill. We went to Chic-fil-a and got a taste of the cold weather for the first time. It wasn't as cold as I thought it was going to be, but the cold weather still made my car-mates frisky enough to start attacking each other with a tennis ball. LOL.
After that, we headed to a local grocery store and the boys got in trouble for sitting/running with one of the kiddy-car shopping carts. LMAO.
I bought a camera and a frappacino and then we returned to the van. We drove to the venue and just chilled in the parking lot. Eating, talking and drinking. Of the alcoholic variety. I didn't, because I wasn't in the mood, and no one was getting drunk either, so there wasn't really a point. We all made toasts, which were fun. I went last, so I just had to go the corny route and use that one special word...
So when concert time came, we piled out in minimal clothes. We were under the impression that we had floor seats, so we were trying to keep extra items to a minimum. Well, it turns out we didn't have floor seats, but ah well. They were still decent. At first I was closest to the stage, with Moody to my right and a stranger to my left. Moody and I made fun of Jessica Simpson together, and then we all rotated. Maroon 5 played, and they were decent. I'm not a big fan, but I did figure out that they sound like an American Jamiraquai. Except not as good ;).
Then Sarah Maclahcan came out and was amazing. Just... wow. Colleen, Sarah and I were all teary-eyed... she's just puts so much emotion in her songs that you can't help it. And the fact that she plays the piano so beautifully... it's a shame that people like Jessica Simpson have jobs in the industry when compared to Sarah Maclahcan (I can't spell her last name..ugh).
Luckily BNL came out just in time before we all started "slitting our wrists" as Sarah put it. lol. We all rotated again so that I ended up between Moody and Kelly. We were all singing along and having a GREAT time. Moody and I laughed at the middle school girls behind us that only stood up and cheered for One Week and looked incredibly bored for the rest. lol. I must say that the Barenaked Ladies are the most entertaining band I've seen live. They're so witty and active and FUN. The songs I can remember from their set: One Week, It's all been done, Call and Answer, the Old Apartment, Pinch Me, If I Had a Million Dollars, the new Chimpanzee song and a couple other new ones (don't know titles because it's in my CD player as we speak)... that's all I can remember right now.
One of the coolest parts of the concert was getting to know the family sitting in front of us. There was a father, a mother and their two blonde daughters (ages 5 and 7) sitting in front of us. The father started asking Moody and I questions at the beginning of the concert, so then later on when his wife and daughters left to get food, he started talking to us again. Sarah and I assumed the little ones were here to see Jessica Simpson, but they were obviously not amused when she was on stage, so we were confused. Then when their dad started talking to us, he said: "Yeah, my girls are huge BNL fans, and I've been to like 7 of their concerts, but my wife isn't too happy that I brought them. I'll be paying for it this week." LOL. He was a really nice man, and when his daughters returned he told them that we'd come all the way from Florida.
In between Sarah M. and BNL, the girls started talking to Colleen and Moody and wanted to hypnotize them. One of them hypnotized Moody and while he was "sleeping", the girl told him to stand up and yell "Go Barenaked Ladies." Moody started cracking up, but he had to play along. So he stood up and sort-of yelled it. LOL. The girls were satisfied though, and when the concert started, they had a great time dancing with all of us.
So at the end of the concert, the man took some group pictures for us, and then we got a picture with the girls. Then the man said: "Hey, if you come back to Atlanta in March to see BNL again, give me a call. You're all more than welcome to come crash in my basement instead of driving back next time." He handed us his business card, and took his little girls as they said goodbye. We looked down at the card: "So-and-so... Senior Vice President of Sales" for Turner. As in Ted Turner. As in CNN, Spike, all that. Niiiice.
While Colleen, Matt, and Michael made a run for the car, the rest of us just walked laughing at them. Kelly and Sarah started walking the wrong direction, then started running, so Moody and I just walked back the right direction and we ended up making it to the car before all of the joggers. LOL.
For the first leg of the trip home, I was in the bitch seat between Michael and Kelly, which was nice because Michael was really warm and Kelly's skinniness gave us plenty of room. LOL. We reclined our seat, Kelly fell asleep, but Michael and I stayed up talking about bands, feeling old, and other such stuff. Once Moody got off his forever-long-phone-call, he joined in as well. Good times.
Halfway home, we switched drivers so then I ended up as bitch inbetween Matt Mc. and Michael. Matt's ass is a bit bigger than Kelly's, so it was a little tighter fit, but at least we were all warm. LOL. We all fell asleep right after that though. As bitch, I had no head rest, so I tried using Michael as a pillow but he was too boney (sp?) and Matt was in some weird curled up position so he was out of commision. I ended up balling up my sweater and trying to use it on the back of the seat... needless to say my neck isn't feeling too great today.
We got to Gainesville at 5 AM, and after scraping the ice off my car, Sarah and I drove out to her apartment. Colleen and Sarah let me crash at their apartment so that I wouldn't have to drive straight home... I (heart) them! I slept in Bryn's old bed, and got some great sleep. I woke up at 11, said goodbye to Sarah and then drove back to K-town.
Spork Search is tomorrow! It's down to me, Sarah, Dev, Katie, Kris, Nirali, Neha and Josh. Possibly Adam, since he actually called me today to get times and such. Katie, Sarah and I all said: "I'll believe it when I see it." LMAO.
More on that tomorrow night, I'm sure!
