Politics make me sad :-(

You know, politics makes me sad these days. It seems to be so hard to have a discussion about politics (especially online) without it degrading into a rather vicious mess of bad language, hate, blame, and nasty attacks on people, their intentions, or the supposed destination of the USA if so-and-so is elected ( Read more... )

I remember commenting on your post, and it wasn't one that made my stomach churn. (Granted, at least some of that was because I agreed with you as I recall. *wink*)

Delight in something positive doesn't bother me. It's delight in something negative, or the "I hate them/They're evil/They're going to destroy X if they win" sentiments that tie me in knots.

Americans are neighbors, here, albeit in a very large community. There's not much benefit in hating your neighbor.

Now I will give the USA credit here: It seems to be part of human nature to have at least some kind of ill feeling for some group of "others," but we thankfully don't slaughter each other over disagreements, as is sometimes the case in other parts of the world. I really hope & pray we don't devolve into that someday.

Rants do have their place: I rant to my husband, or in my head. It's just disconcerting & sometimes scary to read someone else's rant. (Especially when I get the sense that I'd probably be considered part of the group they're ranting against.) It makes me want to hide so I don't get hit (which is kinda what I'm doing by trimming the friends list, I guess.)
