Ascension
Today is a public holiday, originally for "church reasons". It is even one we all get to enjoy, not just the catholic south. It is so unfair, the federal states seem to be able to decide which of the different occasions they choose as public holidays, so the ones with a more catholic population seem to work so much less. But anyhow. Himmelfahrt- Ascension of Christ- somehow has turned into fathers´day. So there are herds of men in different stages of drunkeness out and about. Often on bicycles with little carts behind them in which they transport beer and Grillfleisch/braai/barbeque, whatever you choose to call it. They are fun to watch but get dangerous when driving cars.
My former flatmate and I will do a "ladies day" today and drive out to a nearby nature reserve and have a picknic there. It is nice and sunny and not too many mosquitoes about. Should be a great day, and I won´t even take papers to read or work on! This is so rebellious ;-)
