I had a note in my mailbox at school today, and I thought I'd see if anyone out there is looking to rehome a cat.
The Vet Tech program at Columbus State is looking for new additions to their cat program. Cats serve approximately two years in the program and are then adopted out into loving homes. Cats are used in teaching (from students learning to check heart rate to being placed under anesthesia), and are well loved members of the program. Aside from their teaching duties (once or twice a week), cats are out of their cages (roomy, with litter box, bed & blanket, shelf to hop on, food & water dishes) several times a day for playtime in the cat playroom (a nice set up with toys, cat condos, treats, etc.).
Cats that can be elegiable for the program must be between 1-4 years of age, FLV & FIV negative, had been kept indoors since the last negative test, and be healthy with out heart murmurs or other physical abnormalities that would make the procedures performed within the vet tech program detrimental to them. We do perform a physical exam on the cat and assess their toleration of restraint and handling before accepting them into the program.
If anyone knows anyone, let me know. I can assure you, the cats have a good life in the program. If I had to get rid of my cats, I'd place them there before I'd put them in a shelter.
