There was a GRASS SNAKE on site today!

It was very awesome and had rather patchy scales and a scar over one eye. As grass snakes go, it looked pretty mean. It is my new friend even though I don't know where it went. Snake snake snake snake.

So we all have these large, durable waterproof yellow hi-visibility coats, right. Except they're all ones from previous excavations. So, as I was today examining the contents of my pockets, I discovered:

- Many marker pens
- A piece of medieval(?) pottery
- A piece of modern glazed pottery

Yes indeedy!

I finally have a job! I'll be working as a Field Archaeologist with John Moore Heritage right here in Oxford, so there's no need for me to scarper around the country. It's currently a 2-month contract, starting Thursday!

This comes as substantial relief.

Right. I clearly haven't updated this thing often enough, so here goes.

For those of you who don't know, I had a job as an archaeologist in Northamptonshire that, ostensibly, lasted until the 17th of this month whereupon my contract would be reviewed. Well, after four days on the job, I left without telling them. This was at the end of last month. ( Read more... )
