Well, here's the first selection of "Five things" answers...
snowgrouse: Five things Rygel never told Stark, for fear of his true feelings denting his macho image.
1. That Stark and the beautiful blue bitch deserved each other, and not just because they were both irritating, interfering, prattling mystics.
2.
That Zhaan would have been proud of Stark. 3. That he thought it over and decided it actually would have been infinitely worse to have been stuck on that frelling cramped psychotic excuse for a gunship with only that probakto Crais and those two insufferable lovebirds - even if it would have meant a room of his own.
4.
That he was ever so much happier before he knew slaves were people. 5. That one day (closer than he'd like to admit) he will need a Stykera - and he'll be damned if anyone else gets the job. He will move Hyneria and all the stars to make this so, and make it look like a coincidence. He can do this. He is a dominar again.
astrogirl2: Five people Stark's had sex with
1. Her name was Ynil. She had soft blond hair and a leaf-green eye. She had a Stykera in her family, back three generations; that's why she was chosen. She was nice, of course, and very pretty, but Stark didn't feel the soul stirrings usually required for a mating. He never really knew why until years later, on the ruined surface of an oil-soaked moon. The overseers didn't care of course - they wanted more Stykera. After a weeken of the two of them in seclusion had passed and nature had still failed to take its course, they gave up with patience and infused the room with semak mist. Banik are hardier and longer-lived when the parents mate willingly, of course, but needs must when there are quotas to fill. Stark did his best to fight the screaming instincts and be gentle - he discovered the hard way it wasn't just his first mating. Less than a monen later, the owner went bankrupt and the entire pen was sold off piecemeal. Stark never saw Ynil again, and never did find out if the mating was successful. He's not sure now if he hopes it was or not.
2. Shikasha was tall and proud, and by Scarren standards a striking beauty. There had been whispers going around that she harboured perverse proclivities - but Stark never dreamed what her true purpose was the day she strode through the slave pen, eyeing each male critically. He didn't flinch when she firmly took his chin and forced him to look her in the eyes. "This one," she'd hissed, "this one is strong and in a slave's way, proud. You can see it in the blue fire in his eye. He is lean and lithe and will clean up well." The two warriors she'd brought with her dragged him away and bathed him and dressed him in soft, fine cloth. When he'd been presented to her, she asked him his name, which surprised him, since he didn't know Scarrens knew they had names. Emboldened, he asked her for her permission to speak, and she laughed and granted it. He asked her why he was there - she didn't seem to be dying, and that was the only time he'd ever been treated so well. She'd stroked his cheek and told him that she had other things in mind for him - and proceeded to teach him more than he'd ever dream he'd learn about Scarren females. She was rough with him, and he sustained more scars from her than at any other time as a slave - but they were never inflicted with cruelty, and that somehow made it different. She praised his adaptive and quick-learning intelligence - and at times was even tender. It was never love between them, of course - Stark never thought of her as his mate, and Shikasha certainly never expressed any kind of affection - but she did show him respect, and that was almost better. She had complete control over how he was used - and as time went on allowed him frequent visits to the slave pens to aid lingering Baniks. He was never forced to cross over a Scarren without her say so. She was poisoned, eventually - she had made far too many enemies - and her last extraordinary act was pushing away the female Stykera who had been in the act of crossing her over, breaking the connection and demanding "her" Stykera, and none other. Her soul rests in Stark's psyche much lighter than the other Scarrens, because it is the only one he hosts willingly - and it was from her all the secrets and weaknesses of Scarrens made their way into Stark's mind, a final revenge on her people.
3. Upon his appointment to the Gammak base, Lt Heskon's psych profile revealed a predisposition for cruelty and domination - useful traits, but a difficult thing to manage when tied together with recreation preferences, especially a preference for male partners. Scorpius gave him leave to have his run of the prisoners - as long as he left them mostly intact and ready for the chair. Heskon quickly developed a favourite - apparently you could break a Banik, at least enough to get some satisfying whimpers out of them.
4. They'd discussed all kinds of things together, growing steadily closer, so Stark had had no reason not to tell Zhaan all of these things - but her reaction surprised him. She'd teared up, and seemed to be terribly, terribly angry - he couldn't figure out what he'd done wrong, and he stammered out an apology.. that she stopped with a forceful kiss. "Dear, sweet, beautiful, gentle Stark, you've never known, have you? This is mine to give you, love." She urged him down on her bed, gently but forcefully, and began stripping him of his garments in a slow, tender way that was utterly alien to him. He did his best to follow suit, but in many ways what was happening to him now was completely new. He'd gasped in astonishment to learn that physical pleasure could be as rich and satisfying as the touch of her soul - and that this was what he'd been missing. Someone who loved him, utterly and completely. He cried grateful tears down the blue expanse of her back, even as he rocked his hips against her, feeling her hand stroke and clench against his back. He'd assumed that he hadn't felt as great a pleasure in sex as he had in unity because the physical was inherently weaker - trust his beautiful, sensual Zhaan to show him the error in that.
5. It had taken him a while to bring his life into focus - clarity of thought didn't automatically bring clarity of purpose. When he'd finally figured what to do and how to go about it, he made his way to Hyneria in search of allies. The Baniks needed saving from everybody... and the Nebari needed saving from themselves. It was easy to make her understand that the only real way to deal with the hole the pain left was to fill it with a worthy cause. She came with him without too much persuasion. It was good to have the company of a familiar face - he was no longer lonely in quite the same way. Nothing more ever entered his mind until the night she came to his room in tears, telling him that she knew he was Zhaan's and always would be, just like she was D'Argo's, and she didn't want to change that, but dammit, she needed to feel something, anything. She just needed someone to touch her. John never could, because he couldn't separate out the different kinds of love, but she thought maybe Stark could understand. He thought over his life, over how he'd wanted to touch and comfort Ynil, even though she wasn't his mate, over how the respect from Shikasha had made all the difference, and thought that yes, he could understand that. He kissed her, softly and gently, and she laughed, and together they helped the pain go away, and somehow, somehow it was more an honouring of the people they'd lost than a betrayal. It was nothing like anything he'd experienced before, and he was grateful. He couldn't help but think Chiana was grateful, too.
brightone: 5 things Zhaan wished she'd had the chance to do.
1. She thinks she would have liked to have seen Earth. Even the false version the others saw. John spoke so lovingly of his home, a place of warm rain and green growing things everywhere... even Aeryn's description was breathtaking.
2. John's is not the only planet she longs for, though, far from it. She still mourns the loss of a way home to Delvia - though she knows now that the price was far too high, even if the map had been genuine. Pilot's forgiveness is more astonishing to her than that of the goddess' and she is so very grateful to have them both.
3. More than her homeland, however, she wishes she could at least know for certain, one way or the other if her father was alive. Even if it would only mean she could safely chant the rites of mourning for him.
4. The largest reason she wishes for her home and family is because of the biggest thing she wishes she could have done. To enter a temple of the goddess again, preferably that of Clan Zotoh - and present her mate, formally. They would never approve, and perhaps it is their shocked faces she misses most.
5. No... there is one thing she regrets more. She knows it to be most likely impossible. She understood and accepted this, and she knows Stark did as well. But still, as her health fades and her death nears, she sometimes weeps that there will never even be the chance for a tiny, soft blue child, with golden light shining from within.
*wipes eyes* Damn contacts. That I don't wear.
By the way - should I post these to
