Aqua - this actually refers to the Danish band Aqua - of Barbie Girl, Candyman and Cartoon Heroes fame. I really really like them.

Callahan's Crosstime Saloon - is a series of books written by Spider Robinson about a bar in New Jersey (though it moves to Key West later in the series) run by a big balding Irishman named Mike Callahan (and later the narrator, a folksigner named Jake), under the principle that "shared pain is lessened, shared joy increased". People of all kinds - including time-travelers, a hyper-intelligent talking dog, AIs, alien cyborg assassins, a vampire, and various psychics - who are in pain find there way there by a kind of field of magical coincidence, tell their stories by the fireplace, and the patrons of the bar do what they can to help. It's the kind of place where someone trying to rob the place could end up working there. They've stopped more than one alien invasion by getting the aggressors heroically drunk. Spoilery Wiki Article Here

DCU - stands for Detective Comics Universe and refers to the universe that DC comics take place in. Superman, Batman, the JLA, etc.

Kingdom Hearts - Video game put out jointly by Disney and the people who do the Final Fantasy series - it's an adventure RPG game where you travel in a spaceship between the various worlds of Disney movies and fight the "heartless" - living shadows that are all that remains after a force of darkness has stolen the hearts and souls of people. You team up with the heroes of the various worlds - Tron, Mulan, Jack Sparrow, Pinocchio, Ariel, Tarzan, Beast, Peter Pan, Simba and many others - against the villains, who have inevitably been corrupted by the heartless.

Lemon Demon - A band frontted by Neil Cicierega, whose whimsical songs I very much enjoy. Probably best known on the net for The Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny though my favourite of his is Geeks in Love. You can read lyrics and download some stuff here.

Promethea - she sort of is a female Prometheus, in a way. Comic book written by Alan Moore about a young girl in the 1st century whose father (hunted by early fanatic Christians) gave her into the care of his gods (Thoth and Hermes) who turned her into a living story who - over the centuries - would posses anyone who became enraptured by her story (poets, artists, even a comic book artist or two) and create a work of art about her. She's part super-hero, part goddess, and her mission is to bring humanity out of existing purely on the physical plane but up into the realm of the immateria - thoughts and dreams and, yes, stories.

Robot Chicken - television show done in stop motion animation using action figures (and various other toys). Has a very irreverent, dadaist, and sometimes crude sense of humour. Examples here.

Roxette - another Euro-pop band. From Sweeden, this duo was very popular in the 90's - I never stopped liking them. Most famous for "Joyride", "The Look", "It Must Have Been Love" and "Fading Like a Flower".

I love the idea of Callahan's and Kingdom Hearts! I'll have to see if I can get the stories from the library (I didn't read the spoilery article) but so much classic SF just isn't stocked any more.

The idea of Promethea sounds really interesting.

Geeks in Love is utterly joyous, and the animation is so witty. [adores]

Thank you!

It's a poor library that doesn't have Spider Robinson - the man's a Hugo award winner.

Promethea is interesting, although in later issues it sort of turns into an illustrated guide to the author's metaphysical beliefs. Fortunately, those ARE interesting, and very thought provoking, but it's certainly not an adventure comic anymore.

Only the lack of a downloadable mp3 at the time prevented "geeks in Love" from being played at my wedding.

I complained about the lack of classic SF, and they just said that they have to make room for new fiction. WTH? And what can I do about it? :-(

Ah. OK. I hate being preached at.

That would have been so awesome!

*shakes head* The neglect some libraries show the genre of science fiction is downright criminal.

Ah, a dislike of being preached at means you probably want to avoid Promethea after Book 1. Book 1 is just good old adventure, though, with a metaphysical bent.
