Get it, get it? Sontarans are all clones, right? *crickets* Yeah. Nevermind.
Random aside: I should probably get a better SJA icon than just Slytheen, the Jacksons and SJS all going "B'ZUH??"
Anyway, first things first: damn I liked that! Not actually very scary to me as a viewer - but then I was watching it in the middle of the day on a teeny tiny screen. Even then there were moments I jumped because
that Spellman SOB and his Bobo alter-ego are freaking creeeeeeeepy.
Interesting (new?) backstory for SJ - has it been established (and I mean in anything, book, audio, K9 & company) that she's an orphan? Hell, was it established in Whatever Happened... and I just wasn't paying attention? Anyway that was a lovely scene with her and Luke. I love that she confides in him, and treats him as an equal more than anything.
Speaking of Luke and maturity, he's definitely showing signs of having been under Clyde's tutelage for a year. He's a lot more adjusted socially than he was this time last season, and I love that they've allowed the character to grow like that, and not let him stay a one-joke pony, so to speak.
Go team SJ! Luke and Rani, and SJ and Clyde! And Sj and Rani, and Luke and Clyde! Mix those dynamics! More more more!!
Love the new side characters - especially Rani's mum, who has managed to escape the curse of Whoniverse Mum! She's not a useless twat! Huzzah! Even the dad, who's a bit of a hardass, is more sympathetic than your average Jackie or Sylvia (at first blush, before Crowning Moments of Awesome).
And finally, the elephant in the room: Rani, and her oh so fandom-imploding name. Honestly? I'm sorry guys, I think it's a red herring. Nothing to it. As much as I would love to see her again, this Rani is not the Rani we know and love/hate. As much as I'd love to make a huge deal out of the name myself, the matter of fact is it's really not that weird for people of Hindustani descent to name their daughter "Queen" in their native language. It's a common name, people, SRSLY. It's a cool coincidence, and would be buckets of fun should they ever meet the Doctor again for the reactions alone (since SJ is so not from the right period to notice it, so STFU fandom about that already), but that's it!!
...SJA PTB, you may now feel free to prove me wrong. Oh so deliciously, evilly, angst-fully, crossoverliciously wrong. XD
And that's my rushed, last-half-hour-of-my-shift, 0.02$ on SJA: Day of the Clowns. (remind me to ramble on about the Hamlin connection for a while, I forgot and I have stuff to say)
