DCook Flashback: Hollywood & The Chair

Feb 15, 2009 21:50

While I didn’t see his audition, I certainly remember seeing him in Hollywood Week. Mainly because I was somehow convinced he wouldn’t be able to hit that glory note at the end of his Everything I Do.

But he did, of course, and I remember being O__O. Hello again Scrunched Up Glorynote Face! His vocals here is really really solid. I like his phrasing on “You know it’s true”. And his blue tongue, lol!

More Cook mannerisms: the neck stretching while waiting backstage, his Clasped Hands of Thanks, his laugh.

“And that was the easy part.” = ADORABLE! (His speaking voice is fuckin' sexy, daaamn.) And Simon is a freakin’ liar cos his feet were tapping while Dave sang.

His criticism on David hiding behind his guitar is interesting though. I don’t really understand it given that he does have a great voice and does not need to hide behind anything (Hello Brooke!). I think his ease with a guitar is an asset, not a detriment because he makes it look so easy (case in point: Top 20 week).

The interesting thing is that Simon’s comment likely had an effect on David’s performances. I remember reading some stats (probably from TWoP) that the number of his performance with and without a guitar evens out. Based on stats from whatnottosing.com, his top 3 rated performances were Billie Jean (93), Hello (88) and Music of the Night (86), two of which were without his guitar. And, of course, Dave did his final solo in Hollywood without one too and won Simon over with it.

The hometown clips of David bartending and performing should’ve been a tipoff that this guy was on their radar. But what I really wanna know: any chance that he was performing Analog Heart stuff in that footage? :D

His post-performance conversation with Ryan again mentions Daughtry. And David’s “He didn't?” makes me think that he didn’t know anything else about Daughtry other than watching his audition. Hahaha. But bb, I doubt Simon is jealous of the hair.

So, the hair. At least he got rid of the red. But emo bangs are still there and there’s some weird curl thing going on at the top of his head (man cement failing him after a long day of waiting?). Oh boyyyy. And those jeans are not quite flattering. The whole outfit is a bit ehhhh. But God, I want to bite his arms. Nnnnnggghhh.

Is it just me or does it seem like Dave gained a little bit of weight between Hollywood Week and The Chair? Hmmmm.

I don't know whether I love or hate this outfit. It's a very David Cook style of outfit, complete with hankie hanging from the back pocket. (Interesting to note that after The MOTHERFUCKIN' WIN!, he has reverted to this look, but a more polished version. Works very very well on him). I like the look, but I'm ambivalent about the pink tie. It's like too in-your-face. But I guess that's the point? Hahaha.

His hair is too long(?). Again, the emo bangs don't work on him.

Damn you editors; why did you recap Everything I Do instead of showing us more of his final I'll Be solo? *shakes fist at sky*

His reaction is subdued but still pleased. Heh. I guess he would've okay with not getting through; he would've gone back to Tulsa and released his second album and done things the long(er) and (more) difficult way. Thank you AI Gods for not letting him return to obscurity! What would I do without David Cook? THERE WOULD NOT SO MUCH GLEE IN MY LIFE, THAT'S WHAT. And it would be a damn damn shame.

The best part is seeing the rest of the 4 Horsemen being all gleeful and happy. HIGH FIVE! LOL!!1!!! Yes Simon, friends do want the best for you. :P

"I don't have to go get a job." HAHAHAHAHAAA. Bb, you now have a job... and it's the job you've always wanted. <333333

Up next week: Top 24. I will somehow sit through the Ultimate Hair Tragedy. I should deserve a cookie for that yo.
