We interrupt the DCook flashback for some current AI8 squee. (I'll do Hollywood and the Chair before the end of the week.)
As you know, I spent a semester at UNC-Chapel Hill on exchange way back in 2004, so I feel like an honorary Tar Heel. (Incidentally, we beat Dook at the basketball game yesterday. GO HEELS!) So when I heard that Kansas City auditionee Anoop Desai went to UNC, I felt an instant affinity with him.
Through a FB fanpage (that I found through one of my UNC friends), I learnt that Anoop was with the UNC Clef Hangers, who are the most pretigious acapella group on campus. And somehow I ventured to YouTube and saw some videos of the group's performances. I can't believe that I didn't hear about them when I was there, grrrrr. THEY ARE SO AWESOME!
And then I fell in love with his voice.

Apparently, this was his Senior Solo with the Clefs. I love this song and I love Brian McKnight... but I think I love Anoop's version more than the original.

Aside from the lovely lovely vocals, it tickles that a) they sang at the Old Well and; b) most of them are wearing Carolina blue. (God, I miss them UNC days.) There's another clip of them singing this song from their concert.

In conclusion: the Clefs are FUCKIN' AWESOME. And Anoop is love. I hope he gets through the insane competitive group that is Group 1.
