why sick toddlers and days off don't go well together, part 57

Peter has been coughing and running grossly colored stuff out his nose for a few weeks.  So, when he woke up screaming at 10:30 one night and spent 2 hours at it, to finally go back to sleep at 1am, we decided he needed to go to the doctor - maybe it's more than just a cold.  Robitussin hadn't done anything, Mucinex was making it a little better, and the humidifier wasn't fixing the problem.

Diagnosis: sinus infection.  Thankfully (maybe) his tubes have been doing their job and his ears look great!  That just means this is a little harder to check up on...  Can't easily take a look at what's going on up his nose like you can looking at the eardrum.  Omnicef to the rescue (he's allergic to Augmentin, the wonderdrug for respiratory crap), we hope.

But, alas, it fails.  Looks like he needs to go back to the doctor, because his cough is getting worse (though Mucinex is helping) and his snot turned icky yellow again.

We've had the humidifier going nightly since it got dry in December (just before Christmas, I think), and we're using the Vicks cream rub tonight to see how well that works - I remember liking it as a kid.  Peter didn't have a fever until today, when I got a call while on the way to lunch and dropping off my car to get the bumper cover replaced.  Today has been evil since.

I still don't have my car because it was either go pick it up or take Peter to Far West after hours clinic (there's were no appointments to be had at our location or the South First location).  Because he was in a bizarrely good mood (for a sick kid) on the way home, I actually did get to stop at the mall to pick up my new glasses (bought because Peter broke the earpiece off my other ones this weekend), but only because they're open til 9pm.

So... we'll figure out how to take Veronika to the bank to cash some traveler's checks then to school, Peter dropped off and the transition conference done, and then me to school all with one car in the morning.  Oh, and then figure out how to get me to my car to pick it up some time tomorrow.

I was really ready to destroy something this afternoon the third time I had Peter in the car and he dumped his water off the car seat and screamed about it.  Thankfully, this was on the way to pick up Britton and go to the doctor.  Oh, and this after he sat upstairs screaming for 10 minutes while I was cooking dinner because he wanted me to sit down and read with him, which made us late getting Britton, so I didn't have time to get my car before the shop closed.

ugh.  Today has sucked, and I'm sorely tempted to take tomorrow off just to recover, if there wasn't a major moratorium on personal days immediately before or after a holiday, I'd be even more tempted (they'll actually doc pay rather than take sick or personal leave away from you, they're rather serious about it).  I'm just too tired and frustrated right now.  I didn't even get to do any grading, which is what I was hoping to catch up on with my day off.  ha.
