ooh. meant to post this yesterday but was exhausted from prancing (ok, dragging myself) around Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, so missed the whole happy birthday Singapore thing. i've never really been into the National Day Parade cos all it does is bring back horrid memories of sweating like a pig in the hot sun. I love the fireworks though. Missed it yesterday, but from the sounds of it, it was pretty short.

i don't consider myself particularly patriotic, but then again, can get pretty defensive when I feel that people get negative about Singapore, without knowing the full picture (like idiot directors who say "OMG, I don't know how you people live there!" after a 2-day visit. Well no one's forcing you to live here, piss off and go home.) i can't even say that I have a full picture. i guess i have v. mixed feelings about being here since i've always felt like i've never really fit in here. But over the years, I've realised that it's like that wherever I live - and i've lived in 4 different countries. So it's me. not the place. so ultimately it comes down to choosing to live in a place that suits you... after all, the world is so topsy-turvy nowadays, i think wherever friends and family are will be home. even though i will continue to gripe about it, i'm always hope that in some way we'll be able to contribute to some positive changes. always so idealistic. which leads me to...

support local productions and go watch 'Home Run'! hehehe. can't say i loved the film, but it was a better effort than 'I Not Stupid'. cringable bits: scary music, scary camera movements, over-acting, contrived scenes. liked: the look of the film, art direction - a bit OTT, but v. authentic. loved: the little girl - she's such a natural.

In last Friday's Life! Paul Zach was telling off the local music stations for their lack of support for local music too. It seems as if we always pick up some momentum but never really take off. I wonder if we need some kind of quota system like Korea (maybe Australia too?) did before, just to kickstart the industry in terms of volume. Not exactly sure if the pros will outweigh the cons. But then again, there are many issues tied in a knotty mess.. not easy to untangle. hm. it's all about the Tipping Point!

food for thought, my way, exercise, theories
