I have awesome friends
In summary, I had a really excellent weekend followed by quite a major come-down when I had to come back to campus and leave my people behind. This is becoming a bit more of a pattern than I'd really like. Also, Passover starts on Friday and I'm involved in three seders and three households worth of cleaning and I'm a bit snowed under.

Recently acquired:- A wild sheep chase, by Haruki Murakami. Valentine's present from ghoti, since she's a fan of Murakami and I haven't read anything of his yet, and I like sheep-themed stuff because of my offline name, and also I often notice the cute ears in animated films we've watched together, and this book has a girl with exquisite ears, apparently ( Read more... )

Recently acquired The Pure Gold Baby by Margaret Drabble, from the giveaway shelf at work. I sometimes like Drabble and sometimes don't, but I find it hard to resist free books. And if I don't get on with it I'll put it back on the giveaway shelf.

I wasn't visibly bisexual on the internet yesterday, and I didn't read any novels or tell the internet about them because it was Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. So I was in synagogue all day, or more precisely, I was in the pulpit all day, and that is too much, one person should never do the whole of Yom Kippur single-handed, but anyway, I did it ( Read more... ) -
Another reason to like Sweden
Today's headline news is that the country has passed a law giving formally equal rights to same sex couples, including the right to marry in the state church. (The situation was nearly equal de facto anyway, so really the new law is fixing minor technicalities of wording and such, but it's still good progress.) Life update
I had a very long and tiring week last week, but at the end of it my experiment didn't yield any useful data, bah. The weekend was fairly quiet; I spent Friday sending out job applications and not doing as much tidying as I'd intended, and the guests I'd invited for Friday night couldn't make it. I am busy at work, scrabbling a bit to fit in enough experiments to have something to publish by April. I don't honestly think it's all that likely at this point, but I want to give it my best shot.

Random stuff from my life recently
- I definitely approve of a country where they enthusiastically celebrate Shrove Tuesday with buns containing cardamom, almond paste and unreasonable amounts of whipped cream, but have very little idea what Lent actually is, let alone any willingness to give up good things.
