i love jason mraz.

how many of you read his journal over at www.jasonmraz.com? it's actaully VERy frequently updated, especially when compared to most "celebrity" blogs out there. i just love the quirky way he writes and thinks and he's SOOOO weird!!! and a genius, i might add, hahaha. i also love his opinions, which he is never afraid to give. search online and see some of the wacky things he's said. and yet, even though he's so politically aware and socially conscious, he's still just a nice guy. he doesn't come off as pretentious or close-minded or intolerant. ahh, how to learn, how to learn?? i think i'd seriously go through a lot of hell to be his friend

[edit] here i'll include a clip of his latest one to yes, shamelessly plug him:

Good Morning Starshine, The Earth says Hello... I wonder in what accent?

I should work for Star magazine. I was like the paparazzi on the roof of my hotel a little after 6 am, knowing he would show up just across the way. I had seen him yesterday and I couldn’t sleep being so close and not doing anything about it. So I waited all night. And just as I anticipated he appeared and I got the shot. I took three shots just to be safe, one for each setting on my Polaroid not knowing how each would develop. Granted my subject came out rather small as Instant cameras seem to do, but nevertheless I accomplished my goal and captured a moment that could only happen once… daily.

The sun is famous! Did you ever stop to think about that? How many movies have you seen where they show a blazing sun over the squiggly lines of a glassy desert road, or a sunset over ANYWHERE. It’s the sun. You can’t really recast the sun if it doesn’t show up for the performance. Tonight, standing in for the role of the Sun will be Kevin Spacey. As much as I think it would be cool to see the mug of Kevin Spacey kicking it in the clouds with some groovy shades on, Life, as we know it just wouldn’t flourish. It just doesn’t work that way.

The sun is the one and the only. And we can all see it. Sure, he’ll burn out our eyeballs if we look too hard for too long, which is nice actually because I’m sure that gives him some peace and privacy on days when there aren’t many clouds. But think about it. We’d get excited if we were to see Tutti from The Facts of Life at the grocery store. So why not be stoked when the sun is hanging out in your backyard? You’re practically neighbors!

Everybody knows the sun. Well, maybe not the British. To them the sun is just an outlandish visitor who comes around about two weeks a year every June. From what I could tell it looks as if he’s just left the UK. Everyone’s gloating like roses having had the pleasure of hanging out with the superstar.

Me and the sun, we high five every chance we get. I use protection now, sort of like a liquid glove, because sometimes the high fives can sting. The sun is the founding father of all that is fresh.

I love him.
We are friends.
Did I write this in the 6th grade?

Nope. I wrote it a few days ago. Since then I saw the sunrise two more times from the ocean, looking back at the shores of San Diego, both were great days for glassy lefts, spills, and mouthfuls of salt water. The first morning was a bit cloudy, but the sun still rises through haze like a phoenix from the ashes. I know it’s there and it gives me hope and a great pleasure to be awake, alive and present.

My trip is over in a way, yet my short visit home was just as exciting as any other stop on my adventure. “I can’t believe I live here,” is something I always shout from my backyard. I got to see a lot of cool things in the world and fit in to a lot of choice cities and cultures. Returning home to where I fit in, to my corner of the world, to a place where the coffee shops are still welcoming, and hugs are legal tender, is knowing where I belong. I’m forever humbled by what I’ve been given the chance to do.

Thank you.

Now, on with rehearsals in Nashville! It’s touring time!
