Most people probably saw it on Facebook, but I wanted to write a little more about my new position at work! The good news is that it's a full time tech position! Yay for getting paid for what I went to school for (second-time's-the-charm edition)! Then bad news is that it is in Jacksonville, NC. About two hours and fifteen minutes from where I'm currently at. But no worries! I'm not moving. I'll be driving down to Jacksonville at the beginning of my work week, do my 3-4 days of 12.5 hour shifts while sleeping at the lab during the day, and then drive home to Raleigh for my 3-4 days off. The driving bit sucks. I don't think I'm going to mind essentially living at the sleep lab during my work week too much, it's not like I have any kind of a life on the days I'm working 12.5 hours anyway. And maybe if I do find I have some time when I'm not working or sleeping... there are several beaches within a 30 minute's drive of the lab. The fact that summer is coming is not lost on me. It also doesn't hurt that it includes a raise. The pay is pretty much exactly what the industry standard is for unregistered techs, so I'm happy. The arrangement will probably only go on until August or so at which time the company will be opening a new lab in Apex. The techs will probably all get switched around then, but hopefully I will end up somewhere closer. I'll be registered shortly after so I could potentially work at one of the small two bed labs by myself. Anyway, yay for good times of not-intense poverty ahead! Woot!
