I'm going on two major trips (the U.S. roadtrip and the 24 days in Europe). Afterward, I'm also going to hike the Grand Canyon with my dad if you'd like to read about me rambling about that, at all.
We're starting from New Jersey [where we live] and going south then west. We're going to stop in a lot of the smaller towns and cool places like Cassandaga [the "psychic town"] and make our way to New Orleans. After that, I guess we'll just make our way home.
I'm really excited! =D
Where are you going in Europe? Have you ever been before? =]
Apparently it's the "psychic center of the world"... whether that's true or not, it sounds like fun to visit. =P
Wow, you're so lucky! That sounds like a lot of fun! I've always wanted to go to England.. >.<
I took a cruise on the Baltic Sea when I was in 4th grade and we stopped in Sweden.. we went to this little country house where they had these cute ponies and horses [of course this is all I remember of it =P ].
And I actually just went on vacation to Italy and Greece in March, it was one of the best times of my life! Where are you going in Italy?
The thing I'm most excited about in Sweden is meeting a friend, but I've seen pictures of how gorgeous it is.
I'm not sure where all we're going in Italy. I know we're definitely stopping in Florence and Rome while out that way, but past that, I'm not sure. It should be awesome, regardless.
Aw, that's so neato! I would love to meet some of my online friends who are out of country! =]
And wherever you go, I'm sure you're going to have a great time, I'm so excited for you! I love traveling. =3
BTW, just giving you a pre-warning, one of the most prominent things that I remember from Rome was all the street vendors.. It was raining a lot and every time I turned around there was a short little guy shoving a rose or an umbrella in my face and telling me to keep it. And they're so sneaky about it too! They'll make it sound like they're giving you whatever they're selling and then make you pay like 5 euro for one freaking rose that you didn't want in the first place. They just don't take no for an answer! lol I was getting so fed up with them by the end that I started talking to them in Latin [I wanted to see what they would do ;P ].
These particular vendors are of the annoying, mean, and creepy variety. haha. And yes! I have numerous stories.
oh! also, I'm not sure if you straighten or curl your hair but when I was there, I knew that I needed an outlet converter [which I had] but I didn't know that the electricity level was higher there than it is here... so, I plugged in my curling iron and put it on high [my hair is difficult -__- ], it was only on for like a half hour but when I put it on my hair I heard a sizzling sound and since I'd just woken up, I figured my hair was still wet from the night before.
Boy was I wrong! The black, plastic part on the curling iron actually melted off and the gosh darn thing burnt a decently sized piece of my hair off.
It was horrible!! [I haven't curled my hair since V_V ]
Oh, ouch. Yes, I knew about the need for converting--I did a stint in Tokyo, where the difference is negligible enough that you don't need a converter, but I'm definitely bringing one for my laptop when I go.
I am actually kind of nervous around curling irons. My hair is naturally curly, but when I was younger my sister insisted on curling my hair "properly" for a dance and accidentally burned my ear. I have avoided them since.
Oy, I can't stand that! My hair cutter/styler/person at salon [lol] is almost guaranteed to burn my ear every single time she blowdries my hair straight. I'm convinced she does it on purpose.
>_<;;
And mine is curly too but it gets very poofy if I don't put anything in it, so I like to use the curling iron to get those cute ringlet type curls.

PS- yay for His Dark Materials fanage and House and SGA! xP
Hee, yes. I haven't done anything fannish with the first two, but the third was my main fandom for its first two-three years on air (and then my stint in Japan drew me back into ani-manga fandom. I mean, doujinshi. Who can resist doujinshi?).
I see your interests seem to reflect a preference for het? This is good to know. I write pretty much anything, but tend to default toward slash. After the auction is over, we can talk about you want and what I can actually write.
Feel free to ask me about random fandoms, because I have read and seen a lot, but only kind of haphazardly tagged things based on what I have on immediate hand and would love throwing myself at fic-wise. Re-reading books like Stardust or re-watching (or watching for the first time) certain movies are certainly "hardships" I would be willing to face. *g*
and I mean, my gosh, watching movies? That absurd! I would never ask you to watch a... movie. I applaude your bravery and willingness to face such a hard hardship.
I've read a lot of manga, but I'm not as up on what's currently coming out in the U.S. I'm in the midst of moving, so going by what's on my shelves and already unpacked, I have Naruto, FMA, Death Note, Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service (which I would definitely be willing to fic for, but I'm not sure how popular/widely known it is yet; it's total, awesome crack, though), Yotsuba To!, Cardcaptor Sakura, Wish, Suki Dakara Suki (and a bunch of other older CLAMP manga), Voiceful, The Last Uniform, Hataraki-man (though I've only read the first volume in Japanese), Line, Variante, Fake, Hikaru no Go, a whole bunch of random shounen ai and other BL (Boys Love) comics . . . the list goes on

My best friend reads tons of manga and got me into them.. ^-^ My first was Fruits Basket/Furuba [which I think mostly everyone has read.. have you?], Absolute Boyfriend, Vampire Knight, a little of Ouran High School Host Club [I've watched all of the anime though], PhD: Phantasy Degree, Zodiac PI, Full Moon, Alice 19th, and The Gentlemen's Alliance [my favoite!! =D ]. I've also read a few of FMA and I just started I-O-N. They're mostly dorky, romantic ones but I love them so.<3

Naruto was my main fandom before it had to start sharing space more recently with Psych and Dresden Files. It has its problems, but I love it. My favorite parts are the many interesting, fun side characters. Team Guy, Gaara and his siblings, Team 10, the list goes on and on. It's, uh, a bit of a commitment--there are 28/29 translated volumes and 42 in Japanese thus far, and it's still continuing. Still, I am full of love for it. I used to have the first volume of Absolute Boyfriend in English, but . . . loaned it to a Japanese friend studying abroad at my university and didn't get it back before she left

I'm planning on going on a road trip with my friends after we graduate next year so it would be really cool to hear how yours went.

Ireland, England, France, Sweden, and Italy. I've never been, so I can't even begin to articulate how excited I am.
