Offer: I am offering two journals (two separate bids) that I will fill up with drabbles, fic snippets, pieces of works in progress, story notes, poetry, random thoughts, funny/random quotes, observations, and what-have-you
( Read more... )
I've read a lot of manga, but I'm not as up on what's currently coming out in the U.S. I'm in the midst of moving, so going by what's on my shelves and already unpacked, I have Naruto, FMA, Death Note, Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service (which I would definitely be willing to fic for, but I'm not sure how popular/widely known it is yet; it's total, awesome crack, though), Yotsuba To!, Cardcaptor Sakura, Wish, Suki Dakara Suki (and a bunch of other older CLAMP manga), Voiceful, The Last Uniform, Hataraki-man (though I've only read the first volume in Japanese), Line, Variante, Fake, Hikaru no Go, a whole bunch of random shounen ai and other BL (Boys Love) comics . . . the list goes on.
Pick any you have in common, or feel free to list some of your own and see if I know it?
I am really bad about reading. As in, I can't stop myself. Fortunately fic and library cards were introduced soon enough in life to give me the hope that I wouldn't always be penniless due to spending all my money on books of all kinds.
Some of the aforementioned manga I've only read in Japanese, some only in English, so some things might come out a little odd in terms of how I would translate vs. whatever the mainstream translation is. I know I was really surprised at some translation choices for Naruto when I got back to the U.S.
Um, and this is why you shouldn't ask me about things I like/reading. I will ramble on about them. Besides graphic novels, what are you into in terms of reading/watching/fannishness?
My best friend reads tons of manga and got me into them.. ^-^ My first was Fruits Basket/Furuba [which I think mostly everyone has read.. have you?], Absolute Boyfriend, Vampire Knight, a little of Ouran High School Host Club [I've watched all of the anime though], PhD: Phantasy Degree, Zodiac PI, Full Moon, Alice 19th, and The Gentlemen's Alliance [my favoite!! =D ]. I've also read a few of FMA and I just started I-O-N. They're mostly dorky, romantic ones but I love them so.<3
haha! me too! I spend ALL of my money on books! It's horrible.. especially when it comes to manga because I'm like "Oh, well it's only $10, I can swing that" and then end up buying 5 or 6 at a time and it turns out to be $50! =P
Oh! btw, it seems like everyone is into Naruto... what's it like? Should I give it a shot? =]
erm... hmm.. that's hard because there's so many things! =P I just started watching SG1 [I know.. a little late] but I lurve SGA [though I haven't watched most of season 4 =( Weir was one of my all time favorite characters *tear*]. His Dark Materials are three of my favorite books. I used to read The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice when I was younger [have you ever?], so they hold a special place in my heart. I adore the play Much Ado About Nothing by Shakespeare and have read and watched it a gazillion times. I miss La Femme Nikita [one of my first fandoms, if not the first] and The Lost World. I LOVE old movies! Pretty much the only thing I watch on TV is Turner Classic Movies [besides BSG, X-Files (11 more days till' the movie!), House (when it's on. I can't wait for the next season!!), and Nip/Tuck]. Oh! and I am an avid fan of Chuck Palahniuk, he is, by far, my favorite author. I could go on and on.. but these are what first came to mind. ^-^
PS- I just looked up Corpse Delivery Service, it looks really good!

Naruto was my main fandom before it had to start sharing space more recently with Psych and Dresden Files. It has its problems, but I love it. My favorite parts are the many interesting, fun side characters. Team Guy, Gaara and his siblings, Team 10, the list goes on and on. It's, uh, a bit of a commitment--there are 28/29 translated volumes and 42 in Japanese thus far, and it's still continuing. Still, I am full of love for it. I used to have the first volume of Absolute Boyfriend in English, but . . . loaned it to a Japanese friend studying abroad at my university and didn't get it back before she left.
I'm so far behind on SGA, it's ridiculous. I've seen most of the first three seasons, and then missed most of season four. I plan on catching up at some point, but I'm not certain when. I have some issues with His Dark Materials (e.g. I hate it when books get preachy at me; when it starts overshadowing interesting plots and is blazingly unsubtle, I am annoyed, no matter where the author is siding), but enjoyed the first book and the characters quite a bit. Though it's like YA books make a point of killing off the characters I deem my favorite. Me liking a secondary character is almost a death knoll in YA novels.
Haven't read any Anne Rice as yet. I loved Much Ado About Nothing in middle school, but haven't read it in something like ten years. I've seen a little of Nip/Tuck, but only the first couple discs of first season. Have you seen Casablanca? It's pretty much one of my favorite movies ever made. I've watched it more times than is probably normal for someone my age.
I've only seen the first couple episodes of Fruits Basket (I bought the first ten manga in Japanese, but they're on loan to a friend). Hope you enjoy KCDS! It is fun and cracked out and kind of creepy in parts. I love it.

My cousin used to watch Naruto and I'd always tell him how much I loved Gaara [he seemed like a pretty awesome character] just to annoy him because he'd always get all offensive saying how much of an "evil" character he was. =P I'll check it out! ^-^
I know what you mean about HDM but I just love the characters and the general idea [of different universes and stuff] of it. I'm a huge fan of Marisa/Asriel. And, oddly, that happens to me a lot in movies. Any character I am particularly fond of, dies. I noticed this recently. =(
Of course I've seen Casablanca! While it's not my favorite, I'm rather fond of it. I could probably grow to love it, I just haven't given myself a chance yet. =P Do you like Gone With The Wind? I fell in love with that movie in second grade [along with Breakfast At Tiffany's].<3
I'm not a big fan of the Fruits Basket anime... but I've also seen a few episodes. ^__^ And yeah, I can't wait! I've been looking for a new manga to read.
Dude, that's totally fine. I was actually just drafting an e-mail to you (and was planning on adding you whether or not you won). I am so tired today that I'm not really coherent, though, so I may just sleep and send out e-mails tomorrow, because yeah. Not very coherent at all.
