I walked up and down National Ave. today, doing Student Coordinator-y things.
On the bus back to campus I had decided: I want to try to learn Spanish again.
It's actually something that's been popping out of my mouth a lot recently... ever since I got into Magical Realism last year, I'm dying to read my favorite authors in Spanish.
This summer I bought Afro-Latin Party.
This semester Hira and I tried to give directions to a woman in a car who only spoke Spanish, and it was so frustrating because I knew how to get her there but I couldn't articulate it.
This semester I also decided, furreal, that I am going to stay in Milwaukee and work for a non-profit. How clutch would knowing Spanish be?!
Today I was ambling around Walker's Point and it was really plain to me. I need to stop mourning my status as an American who only speaks English. Figure It Out, Lola.
I will audit a class next semester. And maybe pay bilingual friends to tutor me.
