Very few things in this world stay the same.
She wasn't sure what had woken her up, but that was the thought in her mind as she listened to the sounds of the house around her. A small smile found its way to her lips when she heard Dean breathing beside her. As always, the sound of him in the bed next to her caused her to relax and she closed her eyes again.
It seemed like forever ago -- another lifetime, even -- that she had watched him walk away from her to go save Sam. She didn't begrudge him that decision. She understood that his brother would always come first, and Sam needed him right then. It had just been so hard for her to watch him walk away and not know if she was ever going to see him again.
She had embarked upon her own hunting career after that -- much to the displeasure of her mother. With things strained between them, she turned more and more to Bobby for assistance and news about the Winchester brothers. While she was glad that Sam had been saved, she was more concerned about what was going on with Dean, and Bobby did his best to keep her informed.
It had been during one of her hunts that she had crossed paths with the Winchesters again. She had been happy to see that Dean was in one piece, but she was a little hesitant to let herself get close to him. She hadn't enjoyed him walking away the first time and she wasn't looking forward to watching it again when the hunt was over.
A hand on her arm pulled her from her musings of the past and she opened her eyes.
"Jo?" Dean said quietly.
"I'm all right," she assured him, curling close to him again.
Things rarely stayed the same in one's life, and in this case, she was really glad they hadn't.
