[The writing appearing in the journal is a loose, scrawling amalgamation of print and cursive.]It's never dull around here, is it? Popping out as a naked pod-person with no memories, journals turning into grotesque little creatures... and while I appreciate the sudden and unexpected upgrade in the style of my clothing this morning, I do wish the ( Read more... )

What business do you have with Range?

You could call it a venture of self discovery. I'm guessing you were familiar with him?

"Self discovery?" You will need to be more specific than that before I even think about sharing information with you.

I was greeted with a, "Range? The fuck did you do to yourself?" It seemed like something to look into.

I'm afraid weird will be riding you like a pack mule for the entire time you're here.

Range is a fellow resident. Do you think you know him?

Ha, well, like I said, at least it keeps things interesting.

[Pen tap, pen tap, pen tap... then he decides, what the hell, might as well go and say it.]

According to one of the guys who was there when I was born... I am him. Not sure how reliable the information is, but considering everything else I've seen, it didn't seem wise to rule it out.

Er... I'm sorry? ...Maybe the guy needs his eye checked? Looked like he was only using one, after all...

I apologize for the disorientation of your arrival here. There are generally... better greeters.

Jobs are typically listed in the Marketplace. It all depends on what you would like to do... Though I'm sure many would suggest the weapons stall in the Marketplace.

I get the feeling I'd have been disoriented no matter what. Spilling out of a cocoon isn't exactly my idea of a normal day (granted, I don't know what my idea of a normal day is, but that's neither here or there). And hey, I appreciate the fact that the greeters were matter-of-fact with me, at least.

Weapons stall, huh? [There's a bit of a pause before he continues.] Yeah, that... might work. And if it doesn't, worse that can happen is they fire me and I move on to the next thing.

Thanks for the info, by the way.

True... but sometimes the explanations could be clearer. My name is Raise, by the way. We... didn't exactly meet. We're.. from the same place, if that makes any sense.

You're welcome. If you need any information, I'd be happy to help.

Eh, it's alright. I'll figure things out. And... how do you figure we're from the same place, Raise? I don't think I've met you, yet.

I may have to take you up on that.

I was going to fill you in on job information, but seeing as someone's already managed, I'll move onto the next thing. Guess I'm popular.

I'm Range. What kind of information are you hoping for?

...

Well now, I guess that clears up that little bit of confusion.

Now on to the next bit... for some reason, someone mistook me for you when I was born. So rather than trying to figure out what I thought was my own history... I'm curious about why the mistake was made.

Good thing, too. I'd hate to have everyone think I was pulling stunts without telling them.

Based on appearance alone? Do you Is it possible

I hate to ask right off the bat, but is there something in your dream that might explain why?

Aw, are you afraid I'd get up to shenanigans and get you in trouble?

Appearance and voice, probably. I apparently come off a little differently in text. For which I'm finding myself increasingly grateful, all things told.

[A long pause is taken. This whole scenario of confusion and mistaken identity had started to ring as uncomfortably, annoyingly familiar. He thought back to the dream and... it did seem to sync up. A thread of the annoyance he was feeling could be traced to the tangle of emotions he had felt in his dream. The emotions that had sprung up when the man he was expected to stand in for disappeared.]

oh fuck Um. Possibly. I didn't see any features on the people in my dream, though, so it's hard to say.

There should be an employment posting around in the Marketplace somewhere. If you have any interest in healing or helping people in that way, I'd suggest you come down to the Medical Island. We could always use more hands down there.

live_ringer September 28 2009, 22:06:39 UTC
It's a thought. The medical profession doesn't strike me ask something I'm too familiar with, but if you don't mind beginners it might be worth considering.

I'm a beginner, too. They'll hire you as an Intern and you'll have to do all the grunt work until you learn your way up to a Junior Medic, but I enjoy the work. If you find something that strikes you, though, I'd go that way. As much as we need the help, you know yourself better than we do.

Well, I'll see how it goes.

It sounds like you're kind of shorthanded, though, from the way you talk. Do they take on part-timers? It might be a good idea to learn some of the basics and help with the grunt work when necessary.
