POTTERMORE

Jun 23, 2011 04:05

After the teaser we got last week from Jo Rowling regarding a new website, the wait is finally over. The mysterious "Pottermore" was officially announced just moments ago.

So what exactly is Pottermore? Apparently it's going to be an immersive online reading experience. It's like reading the books all over again, but with additional information Jo's been "holding for years about the world of Harry Potter" (or did she say "hoarding"?). Also, we'll be able to purchase - for the first time ever - digital audiobooks and ebooks of all seven Harry Potter novels. Registration doesn't open until October, but a lucky 1 million people will get to register early. You just have to check back on July 31 (Harry's and JKR's birthday) to find out how to get a chance to join Pottermore early.

The idea came to Jo during a conversation with her agent about how to help Harry live on in the digital world. Harry Potter will always be, first and foremost, books. But bringing the stories to the masses in an interactive way seemed the best way to keep the stories going, even though the books are finished.

What are your thoughts? I was honestly hoping we'd get a bit more than "come back in several months to join." It looks like it'll be a very cool-looking website, though. Well, I guess we'll just have to wait more and see...sigh.

books, harry potter
