Big Totoro

Little Yuzu is Listening To
Under Cover of Darkness - Single
The Strokes

Well, here's a crochet project that took a lot less time than expected. I crocheted this over three days for a few hours each day, and viola! Big Totoro. I finished him two days ago. He's the biggest amigurumi I've ever made. He measures 9½" (24 cm) tall with a circumference of 19½" (50 cm) at the widest part of his tummy. Here he is with Mei Kusakabe. I bought that tiny Mei plushie in Little Tokyo many years ago.

I used heavens_hellcat's pattern for a blue Totoro. But since the blue Totoro has bigger ears, I adjusted the pattern to make the ears more like the gray Totoro's. I also made a green leaf to put atop his head in homage to one of my favorites scenes in the movie when Totoro waits for the Catbus in the rain and, instead of an umbrella, uses a tiny leaf to 'protect' him from the raindrops.
