Jack took a deep breath before he leant his finger against Katie's apartment doorbell. He wasn't sure why he felt nervous, maybe because he hadn't told anyone he was coming here. But he wasn't going to reveal anything, nothing about The Lie, nothing about the island, nothing about anything. He just wanted to see Katie.
The front door opened revealing a smiling Katie with her blonde hair tied to the left side of her head just under her ear. "Jack." She smiled, but the tone in her voice was definitely one of surprise. "Hi."
"Hey," Jack smiled back. "I'm not bothering you, am I?"
"No, not at all." Katie stood aside and gestured for him to come in. "Acadia's napping, should be down for another hour." She led him through the hall towards her kitchen. "Is everything okay?"
"Yeah, everything's fine." Jack slid into a stool at her countertop. "I just wanted to see you."
"Coffee?" Katie offered.
"No, no I can't stay long." Jack declined. "I gotta be at the hospital at two."
"Okay, so," Katie leant against the counter towards him. "What's up?"
"I, ah," He cleared his throat. "I'm going to ask Matt to move in with me." He said quickly.
Katie's eyes rounded and a smile spread across her lips. "Really? That's fantastic!"
"Yeah?"
"Yeah!"
Jack felt a ripple of relief spread through him. "So you think he'll be okay with it?"
"I think he'll be incredibly okay with it." Katie assured him. "In fact, I'm positive he will be."
"Great." Jack let out a breath he hadn't realized he was holding in. "Great. I'm so glad you think so. I just wanted to run that by you before I asked him. Thank you."
"You're welcome. I'd run it past Jordan before you ask him, but I think you're set for a win with this one." Katie smiled, then the sound of Acadia's cry caught her attention. "Oh, crap, I thought I had more time."
"It's okay, I'll leave you to it." Jack got to his feet. "Thanks again."
"Anytime." Katie said. "Oh, and thank you, too."
Jack's eyebrows knitted together. "For what?"
"For saving him." Katie smiled again, and then went to attend to her niece.
