Brace yourselves. Tough one to watch. Tough one to rewatch. Even tougher to process... and damn near impossible to write down, so I ended up using close to 6,000 words. This goddamn show. *sobs*
Fantastic analysis yet again, Sammy. I was just starting to recover from all the feels of this episode (haven't been able to watch it again yet) and your review just brought them all back. Thanks. :P Seriously, though, I really enjoyed reading your insights. The car analogy was really interesting; I hadn't thought of it, but you're right, his cars do seem to mirror his relationships in a way. Didn't catch the movie reference, so thanks for explaining that (though I have to say I'm really glad I never saw that one; the synopsis you gave really grossed me out).
As for the Adam situation... my gut reaction was essentially the same as Tony's: Really, Ziva? REALLY?!? I get that she was grieving and that it's really tempting to fall back on old habits when you're hurting, but come on, would it really have been so hard to pick up the phone and/or wait until she got back to get another hug from Tony (which would have done her a lot more good than "comfort sex" with anyone)? Yeah, I'm still miffed with her right now. And I don't completely buy that she had no clue how Tony felt about her. That she didn't know exactly how much he cared until now, maybe, but surely she at least had an inkling by now. I think it's more she didn't really let herself believe it before (for the reasons you stated), but I think deep down she knew (or at least suspected). In any case, like you, I hope this is addressed in the finale, because they really need to get this sorted out soon - if only to preserve our sanity.
And I agree that they really should have gone after Vance; it would have been more interesting, not to mention more logical. But whatever. They may surprise us yet.
