Of being left-handed Part 2

Aug 23, 2007 19:45

More than a year back, I posted an entry about Emma being left-handed. That was when she was about a year and a half, and we were already pretty sure of it. Now, it's even more obvious. You may have noticed the photos of her eating or writing with her left hand .

Everyday Emma comes back from school with a short report of what she does. It's ( Read more... )

Yeah, you're right. It's quite surprising that the left- vs. right-handed thing is still such an issue in today's world, huh? So much for progress...

Yup. I guess it's much better already but lots of room for improvement.

There's nothing wrong with being left-handed. I remember a long time ago in the convent when my hands were smacked whenever I used my left hand. Left-hand being associated with the devil and all.

I'm effectively ambidexterous, though I now favour my right hand, probably due to classical conditioning.

Must have been so traumatising! My friend was smacked by his parents and today he is right handed, but claims it's done harm to his sense of 'balance'.

When it comes to sporty balance, I don't have a problem. But when it comes to graceful balance, that is shot down the drain. bah.

You reckon? I thought if it was just an observation it would read Threaded independently from right to left. I see it as Threaded independently from right to left instead of left to right (which is the proper way to do so.)

Actually the teachers have reported many times before stuff like "Child used her left hand to..." so I guess they already know she's lefthanded.

Then you would make a great kindergarten teacher! 'Cos you'd be able to fully appreciate the children's attempts to do stuff and celebrate their efforts as opposed to focusing on the final outcome.

i think its better now somehow. my teachers used to freak out if my classmates are left-handed when i was still schooling.

At least I don't hear of parents or teachers forcing their kids to change.

wow i'm impressed that Emma's teachers take the effort to notice that!

Ignatius is also showing left handed tendencies. during the recent bulk purchase for the training chopsticks, we bought 2 pairs, one left and one right handed. I gave Ignatius the right handed one initially, but he had difficulty using it. A teeny weeny bit sadly, i gave him the left handed one and he had less problems with it, and very quickly could start picking things up with them. I was wondering if i should get his CC teacher to also observe if he has left handed tendencies in school...looks like i should!

i agree that there is a stigma about being left handed. my in laws were objecting (very loudly) when we told them to let Ignatius continue to use his left hand. i hope they don't "force" him to be right handed. anyway, the world is largely made for right handers (approx 89% of the population according to my brother!). the left handers just hafta adapt somehow.

I didn't know they have chopsticks for lefthanders! Where did you get them from? Maybe I should get a pair.

It isn't the first time they've made reference to it actually. Many reports have come back stating "Child used her left hand to..." so I guess it's pretty obvious in her case. Even when she writes, she uses her left hand most naturally.

Why don't you just ask Iggy's teachers casually if they've observed him using his left hand to write/draw/eat?

we bought the chopsticks from this bulk purchase... here's the link.

i heard from keikosg that Combi also sells training chopsticks, but not sure if is configured for left or right.

The way Emma holds the pencil is so "advanced". Not sure if it falls under "gals are better at fine motor skills" or she's just ahead of the pack, but it's all good! =) And you're right... i shall ask the school to observe him for me!
