The past three days have been a bit of a whirlwind. Holiday party for work on Friday afternoon, massive cleaning spree on Saturday, then Lessons & Carols at church on Sunday with brunch and carol-sing after the service. I don't remember singing making me as tired as this Sunday's performance did when I was younger. I guess either time is catching up with me or I'm really not getting enough sleep.
The down side to Sunday was the chilly temperatures, pouring rain and that I came home completely wiped out, sat down in the living room and fell asleep in the armchair twice until Sabs got me to get up and go lie down. I then slept for about 3.5 hours.
The up side to Sunday was that everything went well, I had a lot of fun singing the carols after the service and I hit all of the Fs during the actual performance as well as during the carol-sing.
Through the first few carols with a high note, I felt nervous leading up to the note, worried that it would break. With each successive one that passed and floated right out of my mouth instead of cracking or just plain dying an early death without ever making out, I felt more and more confident that the next would come out fine.
It felt so good to be hitting those notes again and added to the happy glow of a good day: a performance well done, brunch with my parents, reconnecting with some old acquaintances, a good meal and the joy of singing full tilt without holding back.
The Fs are the first of the five missing notes off the top of my range. Even if I can't ever push up to a C again, those Fs are important because most typical soprano parts go up at least that far. It's the high descants that aim higher and I can absolutely live with not singing high descant as long as I can sing the basic soprano choir parts well without dreading a break in one of those Fs.
So even though I didn't get nearly as much done this weekend as I would have liked and my kitchen sink is currently spraying water everywhere when you turn it on, it's been a good weekend.
