In an innocuous tweet a friend of mine used the word "nice" thrice (hee) in 140 characters. From my end, I took it as sarcasm, but later she asked why.
That amount of repetition, and that particular word, nibbled around my brain for a second, and was...old...and it is.
Nice, from the OED was used by
Gower in the 1300's and was essentially an insult meaning a foolish or simple person*.
Apparently, that many "nice"s in a row was enough to catch my attention and jog this memory.
Let's all use this in a sentence shall we, and note that Sarah Palin is quite nice.
