I knew things with the house situation was going altogether all too smoothly. Our landlord has decided to sell our current place rather than rent it out. Granted, we are breaking our lease (quite) early, but for the past two years we've tried our hand at looking for houses in the 4 months leading up to our lease renewal with no luck. I don't regret finding and buying at this point, but damn, this is going to cost us.
Not sure exactly what type of severance payment he'll ask for, but I'm expecting he'll want to keep the deposit and at least one months rent. If he'd rented this place out, he probably could have had it rented before we even moved. I've looked into landlord tenant law, and while he does have the obligation to mitigate his losses, it doesn't really specify what the tenants obligation is is the landlord decides to sell instead of rent.
We've been packing all week, mostly to burn off energy while we wait to move, but also because we thought he was going to need to come in and take pictures of things, and didn't want our crap all over the place. I wanted this house to show at its best, I wanted the next tenants to fall in love the way we did when we first stepped foot inside. Now, its just a growing albatross with an unknown cost factor that could put us in the poorhouse.
I hate to say, but now I can't wait to put this place behind me.
