So, after spending the afternoon on the phone to ISP's tech support, I finally got put through to a nice (vaguely brummie-sounding - think Hammond with less class ;)) bloke who was able to tell me what might actually be the problem - and it turns out that it was affecting a shit load of people - the latest WinXP update has a MAJOR conflict with

I have to admit, I'm feeling a little proud of myself. I had a bit of a row with dad after the first tech support call because I was a bit wobbly legged and not in any form to make another and he was all "BUT YOU MUST CALL MICROSOFT NAO!" And I'm sitting thinking about it going... 'why? if I do this'...

So, I got out of having to make another call, sorted it meself and made dad have to apologise for being a git (although he did it by text because he was out, so I got an apology for being a 'geet'... we need to work on predictive text and how to switch it off, next). Not a bad afternoon! ;)
