Reports of my demise...
So, after spending the afternoon on the phone to ISP's tech support, I finally got put through to a nice (vaguely brummie-sounding - think Hammond with less class ;)) bloke who was able to tell me what might actually be the problem - and it turns out that it was affecting a shit load of people - the latest WinXP update has a MAJOR conflict with Zone Alarm. Not his department, but it was nice of him to give me the info - it hadn't occurred to me that's what it might have been, or I'd have googled for answers while in the library. Anyway, once I knew that, I had a fair idea what might help. Roll back the SysRestore to the last point before the update, and blam, back online. Bloody Microtwat.
