Quest Eight: Bored Mae =story timez?

Nov 13, 2011 12:07

Hey Mayfield. I have a question.

What are your homes like? Not your fake homes here. But your actual homes. The ones you woke up from? Mine's a pretty horrible place but I still miss it.

Anyone want to trade stories?

[A. Mae has regained ONE great new piece of clothing. She has her vault 101 jumpsuit back and is wearing it with pride as she walks ( Read more... )

bored, rant to her, she wants to hear stories, vault 101, steals all the things, pip-boy

[Kono opens the door, half expecting to see some drone selling make up or cookies or something, but is greeted by someone in a jumpsuit. Obviously not a drone, then, even if she has no idea who this person is. Maybe it's someone Fassad knows? Kono puts on her best neighborly, non-drone-creepy-but-sincere smile.]

Uh, hi. Can I help you?

......

Oh. Well....I'm guessing this isn't the house I'm looking for....

[Trails off but then smiles anyway.]

Hi, my name's Mae. I'm just a bit lost I guess. It's nice to meet you.

Hi. I'm Kono. And yeah, unless you're looking for a short guy with a mustache named Fassad, you probably have the wrong place. But that's ok. I still get pretty lost trying to find my way around this place. [It happens way more than Kono wants to admit, so many white picket fences, sheesh.]

Nope. Never heard of him. Your fake husband here?

Yeah, they really like the identical look in this town.

Yeah, the fake husband. The children are both drones, so no chance you'd be looking for them.

You want to come in? Kind of chilly here in the doorway.

Sure. If you're not doing anything. I'm really just trying to kill some time today.

Come on in. I could use a conversation with a real human being. [Talking with drone children totally doesn't count - Kono's sent them outside to play because she just couldn't stand listening to them another second longer.]

I can make some coffee or something, if you want.

Sure.

.[Never say no to free stuff. Mae will walk inside.]

Tell me about it. I'm a door to door saleswoman here too. I think I might just start recording my half of the conversations with the drones. They go about the same every time.

Well, at least you have a job that keeps you moving. I fill coffee mugs and type on a typewriter for businessmen who call me doll and honey. [Sounds oh so bitter, she hates it so much.]

Any conversation I've had with a drone just kind of creeps me out. They really buy into the fact they've always been here, you know?

Ah...not fun. Yeah, I'm more used to wandering anyway.

They really do. Even if they had, they could talk a little less about how great it was.

Yeah. Or about the great family vacation you took last year, wasn't the beach great?

[Kono sighs, looking a little dejected for a second.]

Man, I'd kill to go to the beach. That's probably one of the things I miss most from home.

Oh are you from a place with a beach? I've never been to one. What are they like?

Yeah, I'm from Hawaii. You've never been to the beach? Ever? [To Kono, that is a travesty, poor woman.]

It's... it's relaxing. And invigorating. The sand under your feet, the spray of the water when you catch a big wave, the sun glittering off the water. It's the best place to be, especially when you just need to clear your head for a while.

Where are you from, if you've never been to the beach before?

Hawaii? ...Really? An island?

[Wide eyes. Holy...that was a long way away.]

I'm from Washington DC....er but we call it the Capital Wasteland. It's been a few hundred years after a nuclear war for us.

What? [Kono knows that people are from way different backgrounds and all, she's seen that already in her month here, but to hear that the capital of your country in any timeline is disconcerting.]

Uh. What year are you from, exactly?

It's about 2277. Just about two hundred years or so after the great war.
