I just ordered Party Animals in order to get a glimpse of the new Doctor (me and 10,000 others, no doubt). So far, I'm not thrilled, probably mostly because I dislike children. But this kind of casting decision is really impossible to judge until he's seen in action, so I'll remain hopeful that they know what they're doing.
For companions, I would like at least two, and I think it'd be quite good if they already knew each other - siblings, a couple, best friends... Perhaps even parent and child, to mix up the age range a bit. I want the companion(s) to have a life outwith the Doctor, one that isn't seen as pathetic in comparison to their travels with him. That's my biggest problem with DW. Rose thinks there's nothing for her without him (never mind all those people who love her, never mind her own talents). Donna would rather die than go back to her old life. Bugger that! I want the next one to value his/her own life, and the people in it. That's why I like the idea of two companions who already have an emotional bond. I'd also like to see a companion from somewhere other than contemporary Earth.
Brucie for 12!
