So, it's official: I am going to learn Portuguese!!!
I will be doing so by using the Rosetta Stone program, which I was told was probably my best option to learn the language. So, a year from now I ought to be fluent in the language so long as I stick to the program. Since Spanish is my native language (and I knew french once upon a time -which ought to help with the nasal sounds frequently found in Portuguese), I do not expect Portuguese to be that much of a challenge for me . . . but I do not want to jinx anything quite just yet *Winks*
I am learning the language for my job. Although Spanish is the only required language to be part of the Latin American practice group at my firm, Portuguese is highly useful and attorneys are encouraged to learn the language since "portuñol" does not quite cut it in the business world. This group focuses on private equity deals, fund formation (including investment strategy and transactions in emerging markets), and growth capital strategy planning for clients in Latin America. Furthermore, it will make me that much more marketable in the future when/if I decide to leave New York.
Eu aprendo rapidamente. . . em um ano eu estou indo falar perfeitamente o português . . . or so I hope tee hee!
