One sushi making loser among many....

Mar 14, 2009 00:19

So I'm making sushi again. This time it's better, since I learned so much last time.
And while waiting for the rice to settle I worked on my knitting.

Is it just me, or do I have some very strange hobbies for a 22 year old Jewish girl?

Anyhow...
By five today I was feeling like a total loser. I was going to apply for this grant, but it needed to be post marked by today. Due to printer issues and me being a lazy bum, and it being a horribly trafficy rainy day, It was five, and wasn't done. The post offices had closed and so had the place I was going to drop it off at.
So I walked into the ceramics room and told Peter to forget the letter of recommendation, cus I was a loser.
He looked at me and said, "Why? The main post office downtown will post mark your mail until midnight. You have no idea how many times I've run down there at 11 with a grant application. Lots of artists in the metroplex do the same thing."
Which made me feel SO much better, you have no idea.
I'm not the only one!! I'm just a typical artist and not the especially hair-brained loser I fancied myself.

All is well with the world.
And I have sushi.

Update! Decent sushi at last!

Cat's sushi-making tips:
1. Cheat
If you want to make sushi with the rice on the outside, put non-stick paper such as butcher paper between your sushi roll and the bamboo matt. It helps enormously.

2. Put your back into it!
Use more pressure than you think you need. The more the better it stays together.

3. Use a sharp, clean knife.

4. Try, try again! It's an art I tell ya.
