And then I ate the evidence.
>_>
It was pretty lousy sushi. Not lousy in taste, it tasted FABulous... but it looked like a monkey had made it. I got the proportions all wrong on the first role, and they were HUGE. The second one was better, but still fell apart as I tried to eat it. I think I need a sharper knife to cut the rolls with.
And a bit more practice.
I did much better once I read the part about putting water and vinegar on your hands to keep them moist so the rice doesn't stick...
Yeah. I never thought I'd have hands comPLETEly coated in rice. And MAN can that stuff stick. X_x It's like edible glue-coated burrs.
And that stuff doesn't dry, it sets up.
Note to self: Clean up IMMEDIATELY after making sushi.
Also, I never thought that fanning rice while tossing it would be so difficult. It's like rubbing your head and patting your stomach. One hand has to go up and down and the other round and round... but they both want to do either or and something ends up tangled in the middle and you end up sort of stirring the air and patting the rice. :P
I love rice cookers. They make perfect rice. If I had tried that bit it would have been an epic disaster, rather then just a normal fail.
I have new respect for sushi makers, and I am glad that I shall be able to try again. I have a bag of sushi rice and a bottle of sushi vinegar and some veggies in my fridge, so I'm set for another few forays into Japanese gastronomical practices.
Yay, adventures in cooking. I got to learn things and stuff myself silly on sushi, so all-in-all it was only a tiny fail on the way to sushi-making greatness!!
(P.S. I need a sushi mascot. A little sushi roll doll with cat ears. ^_^)
