I know that this meme is for Wednesdays, but let's pretend I'm not desperately searching for ways to procrastinate.
What are you currently reading?
Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke, endlessly. I keep getting excited when I hit a major page milestone, like 700, and then realizing that I have hundreds of pages to go still. I am enjoying the read very much, despite my general dislike of most 19th century prose. The pastiche gets most of the best bits of it, I think, and I like all the characters, even the terrible ones. I also have no idea how everything is going to end! *hands* I have amused Raven Cycle thoughts whenever JS&MrN mentions the Raven King.
Currently rereading
I've Been Trying to Reach You by
thememoriesfire, which is ostensibly a Glee fic but so far removed from canon that it's basically an original work. Starring angsty teen lesbians, one of whom is in a band. I have no idea why I enjoy it so. *G*
I'm also rereading The Secret Garden, because it's free on iBooks. I vacillate between "Oh, NO, British imperialism" and crying about Colin's recovery and the earth coming back to life.
What did you recently finish reading?
The Heiress Effect by Courtney Milan. I didn't feel the need to livetweet the best bits of the romance like in The Duchess War, but I did quite enjoy myself. I loved that Jane has GENUINELY TERRIBLE taste in clothes, the B-plot romance, and the continuing trend of DEVOTED LADY BFFs/SISTERS. Oliver was not the most interesting male lead, but we can't all be Robert.
This is a far shorter review than the book deserves, but it's been a few weeks since I finished it. JS&MrN has consumed all.
What do you think you’ll read next?
SOMETHING SHORT. Dear God, something short. More Courtney Milan books are in my future for sure, and not one but TWO of my roommates just bought several of the Miss Fisher books. I suppose I should also read something in my stack of impulse buys, since I'm supposed to be downsizing my book collection...
