Southern Exposure

I'm back from what was probably my most significant time spent in the deep south (Florida doesn't count; I spent some time in Savannah, but that's at least coastal). It was definitely southern from all angles. It was B'ham Alabama, obviously, and the South regional conferene of NACA, and even the students with whom I was traveling were some rebs. I found myself at one point, after seeing the final score of the USF game (38-16, Bulls) wanting to report that the Bulls "beat the brakes off them damn Yankees". Except a few things: I am a damn yankee (though admittedly, a mid-Atlantic yank and not the Connecticut variety) and the folks down in Tampa, FL aren't exactly un-Yanks. Still though, I've become quite partial to the phrase "beat the brakes off of".

Speaking of athletic competition, HOW BOUT THEM EAGLES! Ah... how sweet it is. Beating the Cowboys is always sweet, but particularly with Public Enemy #81, who didn't do a damn thing in the game. Unfortunately, I was on a bus on the way back form Magic City while the game was on and checking the scores on my phone.

And this coming weekend it's out to Carolina to see dem Bulls take on the Tar Heels of UNC. I also got my tickets for USF at WVU, which I was scared about because I heard a rumor it was sold out (which it is for WVU, but our allotment is still there) As I'm sure I've mentioned, that game is Thanksgiving weekend, so in between Greensboro and Baltimore we're making a detour to Morgantown.

Random thought on the bus on the way back. I want to create a bowl game. In Baltimore. Imagine: the UnderArmour Charm City Bowl. Big East vs. Big Ten (or Navy). I'd make it an ACC matchup (College Park being the obvious possible choice) but there is no Big East Big Ten matchup right now and there are close enough teams in each conference and teams that travel well. Yes, there are too many bowl games. But while there are already too many, why not have my own? :-)

I just re-upped my Lj subscription. Yes, they've got my hooked and probably have a customer for life. Damn you, LiveJournal!

I was off today and again tomorrow, because I chose to take fall break after having FallFest going right into being away at conference. How sweet it is.

OK, now I'm rambling, and we're supposed to be headed somewhere. i'll holla.
