I love how on Labor Day you DON'T have to labor.

I figure I should get back in the habit of updating regularly, besides, I know y'all miss me when I don't!

Speaking of "y'all" Let me, for the record, say that y'all is the most utilitarian word of its kind. I don't care if it's traditionally a southern word. It gives the least confusion of singular vs. plural, and IMO sounds better--even more educated--than youse or youse guys.

In related news, I have a new southern guilty pleasure. So I was channel surfing not long ago and came across Hee Haw on CMT. I stopped to watch the end of it because for some reason I was drawn in (don't judge!). Following that was Country Fried Home Videos, hosted by Bill Engvall, which is essentially America's Funniest Home Videos: The Redneck Edition. It's definitely good times, I highly recommend it.

WHY IN THE EVERLOVING FUCK ARE WE LOSING TO IAA MCNEESE STATE RIGHT NOW?!

*ahem* Here I sit, watching me team "play" via GameCast on ESPN.

Last night was the Stomping on the Yard Super Stomp Competition at the Greensboro competition. It started about an hour late, which the way I see it, is about average for most step events I've been to. We first heard anything from anyone at about 45 minutes late at which point they told us to welcome the hosts--Fonsworth Bentley and Keisha Knight Pulliam--twice before they actually came out. In the interim, the crowd got buck on a few things and started some Aggie Pride (more on that later) and the ghetto wave ("Section number 1 number 1 number 1! Section number 1 where you at number 2!") And of course, people got to party hopping in the aisles and everything. In the house that evening was the Blue and Gold Marching Machine, so we were treated to that as well.

(insert: How lame am I? As I mentioned, I'm watching the gamecast of the USF game. We just scores [and finally took the lead] and I just played the mp3 of our fight song on my computer)

This is the first time they've done this event, and it was kinda evident in that the whole thing was kinda rough around the edges. I already mentioned the lateness, and the botched intros of the hosts... apparently it was also being taped for ESPN2 and/or MTV... but the whole thing gave the impression of "we didn't do a dress rehearsal". Interesting moment. They had some young lady singing the national anthem, and when they got to "And the rockets red glare" they set off pyrotechnics (the "emits showers of sparks" kind) on the stage that let out a loud whistle and scared half the crowd and got folks murmuring through the 2nd half of the song.

At any rate, there were shows from the original 8 of the divine 9. The good ones were among the best I've seen, but there were some where I've definitely seen members of their organization do it better, including the Alpha show, which was some alphas from A&T, and their bruhs across town (UNCG) have put on better shows than that. It ended up with Blue and White champions (Sigma and Zeta) , which I agreed with, but some of the other rankings made no sense to me. I also definitely like the Kappa show, and thought that one was a toss-up with the Sigmas for the best fraternity show. Of course, the show was hosted by Fonsworth Bentley (dressed like a normal person--no plaid pants or cardigan or anthing, which isn't quite as fun) and Keisha Knight Pulliam, who I think looks more like she did back in her days as Rudy again than the last time I've seen pictures of her grown up.

OK, 35-10 Bulls with less than 3 minutes left. THAT's more like it. I think Grothe may just be our starting QB. And we held them scoreless in the 2nd half. Leavitt probably tore some new assholes at halftime.

Today was a Battle of the Bands at a local high school, featuring primarily high school bands with performances by the NCCU Drumline and the WSSU Marching Band. Central's cymbals, of course march what I believe the most beautiful cymbals in existence (Zildjian Titanium series) even though Megan wasn't nearly as impressed. I rolled up in band dork gear--my "Cymbals" shirt that I got at the DCI show. When Megan guessed I was going ot wear a band dork shirt, I was like "which one?" since I've got this one, my major league drummer shirt, my NightBEAT shirt, my ATL Battle of the Bands shirt, my University of Drums shirt... you know how I roll.

So, Aggies-Rams. The Triad has been BANANAS over this game all week. the Aggies of NC A&T played the Rams of WSSU. The schools are less than an hour apart, both here in the Triad, and both HBCUs, so it's been all folks have talked about on the radio and basically everywhere. Plus, the Rams just moved up into the MEAC from the CIAA so are now conferencemates with the Aggies. Hence, there was lots of "Aggie Pride" at the step show and at the BOTB, although the Rams were definitely in full effect at the Battle as well. Most of the personalities at the Wild Out Wake Up Show (the morning show I listen to) are Rams, so they're likely to have lots to say if the current trent--SU leading 41-14 in the 3rd--continues. So they got there respective chants (the "Aggie Pride" and the "Who ya wit? A&T MUHFUGGA!" vs. "Chew tobacco chew tobacco chew tobacco spit, if you ain't a Ram, you ain't shit!")

Speaking of which, if you ain't a bull, you're just bullshit. And after scaring me in the beginning, the Bulls beat the Cowboys 41-10.

That entry was pretty long. Maybe y'all liked it better when I wasn't updating!
