Notes: Written for tw100 challenge #158 Fancy Words (Solipsistic). The title is from an interview I heard with a former death row inmate, speaking about solitary confinement.
When Jack woke on Satellite Five, there was nothing but ash and the dead and the groan of the TARDIS fading. What if, he wondered with panic rising, defeating the Daleks ended everything?
Well. At least the last person alive was handsome and charming! ...But bravado couldn't mask the horror of having nothing to distract him from himself until he got old and died.
A century later, he faced a trusted employee, a gun and eyes full of murderous desperation. Jack should have hated his species - but no. Even this was better than being the only person in the universe.
