Well I finally registered for the 5k! Edouard Michelin 5k, here I come.
Monday - #onemilemonday 4mi run and lift
So, because of my 80-mile August challenge, I upped "one mile Monday" to 4 miles today. Felt like running through split pea soup… disgusting. Hard to breathe and feel any kind of relief. But guess what? I was FAST. Average 8:34/mi (what?!) for the 4.1 miles.
….and I caught up to first place in my challenge team. Currently ahead of 2nd place by 1.15 miles! #runFARRANDrun #80mileAugust
I'm scared though, there are some strong runners on this team. Plus there are like 5 other teams that I have no visibility of… if I can win my team, I'll be very very happy. But I'll be happy just to finish, too!
Tuesday - #10kTuesday
#itsathing #doitforthehashtag
Pretty good run today, and actually felt good (relatively) temperature-wise. It was still crazy humid but at least the temps were mild and there was a little breeze. Makes me dream of fall running! Ran out through the Upstate campus which meant HILLS today, but still held a 8:50/mi average for the 6.25 miles.
Wednesday - bike
Another speedy ride today! Did the Sherman College loop again, 14.4 miles at an average 16.4mph moving speed. Wasn't expecting to set any speed records today because my legs have felt tired due to the extra mileage I'm putting on them. But anyway, yay1
Thursday - 8 x 400 interval run
Well, whatdya know. Add one little quarter-mile repeat and BAM it's a tough workout! It also helped that overall mileage was longer since I did a full 400 of recovery between each speed interval. Warmed up for half a mile at 9:30/mi (6.3mph) then did quarter mile speed intervals at 7:03/mi (8.5mph) with quarter mile recovery (same as warm-up pace) after each speed interval. I was sweating buckets and felt good to push even through the last interval, but man, I'm tired now! Total 4.5 miles.
Friday - #5kFriday
Got up and out for a few miles before our flight out to Chicago for the weekend. Just a quick jaunt through the neighborhood, 3.1 miles at 9:23 pace.
Saturday - 6k for Water - Chicago
When traveling to new places, I like to find races that will help me cross of another on my "run a race in every state" list. We found this race that was happening in Lincoln Park, and it benefits Team World Vision that helps provide clean water for children in Africa. That's the reason behind the 6k - it's the average distance a family in Africa has to walk to find clean water.
We got there plenty early, hung out for a bit, and got our places in the starting corrals. Scott pushed D in the stroller while I ran for speed.
I got out front of the main pack pretty quickly, and set a comfortable but hard pace. I didn't look at my watch, but I passed the first mile marker as the clock hadn't quite yet hit 8 minutes... whee! I considered this a good test for my sub-25 5k goals next week (which requires a race pace of right around 8:00/mi). Well... the results speak for themselves:
Yessssss! It was tough but I felt good at the end. I didn't realize I'd placed 3rd in my age group! Hooray! I now feel VERY confident about my goals for next weekend. Fingers crossed.
Sunday - travel
Didn't formally "exercise" but we walked a TON around Chicago and in the airports.
