Sub-25 5k Training: Week 5 of 8

Aug 01, 2016 12:02

The week overall went well, stuck with the plan other than this past weekend which was up in the air due to traveling. Feeling pretty good about my progress and need to go ahead and sign up for that 5k!

Monday - #onemilemonday and lift
Decided to get a little speedy on the t'mill this morning for my one mile. Clocked at 7:36! I know I can go faster but it's difficult without a warmup.

Lifted - increased bench press to 75lb. Could only manage 5 reps per set. Other lifts stayed the same, but I think I'm ready to increase squat weight.

Tuesday - #10kTuesday
#itsathing #doitforthehashtag
Holy cow what a gross run. I feel like I should be used to the heat by now, but maybe last week's run in Pittsburgh spoiled me. Who knows if it was even the heat - maybe not enough sleep? Maybe it was the milkshake I ate at 10:30pm last night? Whatever it was, YUCK. My legs felt like lead, I couldn't catch my breath, my HR was through the roof (I topped out at 188, which I don't usually hit unless I'm sprinting at the end of a 5k). Blerp. But I got it done, and that's what matters.

Wednesday - bike
Short ride today on the road bike. 10.5 miles through Upstate campus at average 16mph (whee, fast!). Got out early so it wasn't terribly hot yet, but still quite warm.

Thursday - 7 x 400 interval run
Easy pace = 9:30/mi (6.3 mph)
Interval pace = 7:04/mi (8.5 mph)
This run felt way too easy…
Not that the speed intervals didn't get me working, but the overall workout was just too quick. Part of that was because I had to reduce the "rest" intervals to 0.15mi instead of quarter mile for time constraints, but I got to the end and realized I hadn't even run for half an hour. I guess that's good for my overall goal, but I felt like this should have been a tougher workout. Oh well, I shouldn't complain!

Friday - yoga walk
Got 2.8 miles walking on the treadmill desk before I had to leave work early to head out of town for the weekend!

Saturday - bike
We biked the Virginia Creeper trail this weekend! More about it here with some maps and photos.
Got a total of 37 miles on the gravel trail!

Sunday - run
Heat, tired legs, and baby schedule all combined to make Sunday a rest day.
